He definitely tries to make sure everyone understands the material, and he emphasizes the crucial points. He will answer all questions in class.

One of the best EE professors.

Honestly, I don't know why the ratings are so low for this professor. This guy is amazing! I took EE 121B with him and he was able to teach really difficult material in a very organized and clear manner. And we covered a lot of material. We reviewed basic semiconductor physics and pn junctions the first 3 weeks, then thoroughly covered bipolar transistors and MOSFETs for the rest of the quarter. I learned so much in 10 weeks!

Also, he's very friendly and approachable (which is something I can't really say for some of the other engineering profs here). He always encourages the students to ask questions and will sometimes even go out of his way to make sure students understand a topic before moving on.

In short, take classes with this professor! You will learn a lot.

Professor Chui is pretty good at teaching, although I am not a fan of his lecture style. His lectures can get dry mainly because he uses powerpoint instead of the board in teaching the material. Nevertheless, the powerpoint slides are pretty helpful if you look at them in advance, but they don't exactly give the whole story behind the concepts. The diagrams were really helpful, but there wasn't much text on each slide to explain what is going on in each diagram, so the concepts taught in the course stayed fuzzy in my head during the entire course of the quarter.

However, I still recommend Professor Chui because he is one of the better professors who can actually teach semiconductors. I learned more in one lecture with Chui than I learned in an entire quarter of EE 2, but I still ended up with a lower grade in 121B because Chui's exams were pretty difficult. He really made you think outside the box during both the midterm and final.

As far as homework goes, Chui didn't give out very many assignments. Although the assignments were rather difficult, there were only about five during the whole quarter, so it wasn't very bad.
