Chaim Seidler-Feller is one of the greatest professors I've had at UCLA. He is very passionate and thoroughly knowlagable about so many aspects of Judaism. He does have certain bias, but he admitted so on the first day of class. There were six books assigned to us including a 500 page reader. He does give a lot of reading, in addition to whatever his TA assigns (if you can avoid Ofer Nur as your TA). Many students were confused as to what the readings were because the TA assigned different readings from the professor, many of which were not posted on the web site, so we had no idea about what to turn in for the journals. Other then that about 80% of our grade was determined during the last two weeks of class with 40% of the grade based on two books that you have to compare and contrast which you get all quarter to do. The final was fairly simple, we had to answer 3 out of 8 essay questions and he has a review session before the final in which he tells you what subjects you need to study for the exam. Overall I would definitely recommend taking Seidler-Feller. The passion and enthusiasm that he envokes for Judaism is something that you can carry with you for the rest of your life. The class was not difficult and only time consuming if you did all the readings, which is not even necessary.
