If you want to get an A in this class, you have to sit in the first row, write down everything he says, and highlight the text he reads in class. If you are slow, record his lectures.

He covers a lot of text in his lectures, and the exams are challenging if you don't listen to him. Actually, there is pretty much no way to get an A in his class unless you listen attentively in his lectures.

There is no point to read the text by yourself because it is almost impossible to understand medieval text and the symbols and significance of metaphors, allegory, etc. BUT, everything you need to know for the final will be verbally told by Johnson.

He may be monotone, but he's good. You learn a lot from him. If you sit in the back of the class, you will fall asleep. It'll be a waste of your time because you won't get anything out of class and you will do badly in his class.

Go to his office hours. Make use of your TA's.

It's not an easy class, but he has a wealth of knowledge. You can learn a lot and get an A if you pay attention to what he says.

he's not as bad as people say he is. You just have to know how to study. Understand the major themes of the course.

Awful, disengaged, bitter. Do not take this class if you can help it. The reading is interesting, but not worth the excruciating lectures and bullying remarks. For the Spanish minor, take Torrecilla for 120B - He is amazing.
