She's pretty nice. But she doesn't correct people's pronunciation enough just letting them get by with saying something that doesn't make sense. Everyone says her tests are hard, but i'd say they're pretty easy. straight out of the book, and you don't even have to study the supplementary words really. she doesn't really go over the culture, it's mostly just vocab and grammar. the compositions are hard, and you should definitely do the first drafts. they're graded so watch out.
prof delavault is very intellegent and you learn a lot...the workload is not too bad...3 chapter tests instead of a midterm and you know exactly what to study for...if you're looking for a light workload but where you actually learn something...take her class. french is awsome
Professor Delavault was a little intimidating at first but soon after she was very approachable and willing to help outside of class. She is also a very fair grader and helps her students when she can. I really hope to have her again. She is one of my favorites in the French department. I learned a lot in her class but it was not too hard.
I definitely recommend Professor Delavault. She explains things really well and her tests and compositions are fair. The class itself is interesting; I took french 2 with another teacher who tried to get people to participate and failed miserably while Professor Delavault makes it easy and fun for everyone to take part(well, as much fun as french can be). She has a good time and is very helpful.
I'm a 1st year and I took her for French 3 in Fall 2002. I really liked her. She made you feel comfortable, and she was very good at explaining things when the class was confused, or wasn't grasping the topic. Her tests were very fair. She's really good at preparing students for them. She was also very fair on the compositions, which were only 1 to 2 pages aka: 1 1/2. She was friendly and a great teacher.
Hands down, she's a very good and effective teacher. I agree with some of the other posts saying how she's young, energetic and makes the class fun. Her grading is extremely easy. She's not picky at all.
The only complaint I would have is that she doesn't like students to come to her office hours. My friend and I tried to come in once, and she seemed annoyed. Needless to say, we never went again. But it's not necessary to go to office hours. You get everything in class.
She's a good prof.
Hmm... where do I start? Delavault's style is she strikes up conversations with her students and jots down important concepts onto the board. This is definately a class where participation is important. The class had homework every day but it was easy. Tests and compositions were simple, although Delavault stressed accuracy. However, she allowed students to rewrite compositions for a better grade. I definately recommend taking a class with her. You come out learning a lot, although if you're not social, you'll just sit in class and be bored.
Thumbs up for me.
Professor Delavault was the best French teacher I've ever had. She is extremely patient and really cares about her students. If I ever take up French again, I'd definitely try to enroll in her class. She is AWESOME!
