You should definitely take this class with Dr.Goff, this is easily one of my favorite classes at UCLA. The way everything is structured is great ! Your class may be different if taken during fall quarter as I took it in the summer. The breakdown for the summer class was 3 Written Exercises which have a specified prompt for the assignment related to the content of the class, we watch several films questions are asked in the exam, 2 exams, extra credit SONA. I would definitely take again, great class for upper division psychology elective.
Professor Goff was clear about her lecture contents, and the slides were helpful. However, some of the exam questions were tricky (even though the professor may not intend so). Students in this class were insanely competitive, but overall, it was manageable to get an A!
Professor Goff made lectures very clear and did a great job explaining the material. The slides and lectures were very engaging and easy to follow along with. As long as you study the slides, you’ll be good to go on the exams.
This is genuinely my favorite class that I have taken at UCLA. Professor Goff is such a gem and all of her lectures are extremely interesting and she is always very clear. Discussion section is mandatory, but I usually found it pretty helpful to review things that she went over a little bit more quickly in class. Lecture isn’t mandatory but if you attend 80% of lectures you get 1.33% of extra credit to your final grade. Her exams are very straightforward and honestly didn’t require a ton of preparation (they are in person, multiple choice, and closed book).
This class was one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken at UCLA! You learn so many things relevant to your life & it's a lot of fun to make connections to the lecture material. Also, Dr. Goff is one of the best lecturers! She's so much fun to listen to & she makes her lectures very entertaining. Also, this class doesn't require a textbook, which is nice. She allowed us to drop our lowest midterm (since there are 2). Her exams are very fair.
A wonderful class with a wonderful professor that is understanding and cares about the mental well-being of their students. Lectures were often clear, and questions were always welcomed. Exams are short answers. Would not miss an opportunity to take it again.
Dr. Goff is an amazing lecturer who gave very engaging lectures. She is very passionate, caring, and helpful to students' needs. When I took the class it was in person, but there were a lot of issues with the school wifi. Dr. Goff was very understanding of students' worries and gave extra credit and more when the mandatory graded attendance based on an app was not working, she made it extra credit. She made sure to go through every student's email and she is just genuinely such a sweet person.
Additionally, I learned a lot of interesting topics about developmental psychology as the lectures were filled with personal videos from the professor and adorable children participating in studies. My favorite was learning about how early experiences affects development and emotional development. Her tests are very fair and you are allowed to drop the lowest score of the two midterms. Although the wording is a little trickier in the second midterm in my opinion, but if you study and clearly understand the concepts you will do great! There are weekly written assignments that are easy and are given in order for you to think more about the topic at hand. As well as weekly discussion sections which are graded on attendance.
Overall, the professor was what made this class so much more interesting and amazing, and would definitely recommend to anyone who is even remotely interested in the topic of developmental psychology. I found this class very manageable, lectures fun, and in general pretty enjoyable.
Oh. my. god.
idk what to say but TAKE THIS CLASS if you can. i would take it over and over again if I could because god is it great. she is so vulnerable and honest with us and treats us like humans beings with so much respect for our thoughts -- i mean that IS what a parent does after all wink wink.
4 assignments, 3 exams. all so easy and fun. i genuinely looked forward to her exams because I wanted to see how much I absorbed and got an A on each one. all assignments are easy and ask you to reflect on your own life or your mother.
she speaks of her own difficulties and truths with being a mom and expands so much on concepts of attachment, parenting styles, best parenting techniques, influences bad or good parenting. documentaries, short videos. just so engaging. love her so much. taking her again next quarter for trauma.
also there is a textbook but I only used once and found the lecture material sufficed for exams.
