She'll make you actually LIKE (if not love) learning O. Chem. Whoever can do that, is worth your time. Had high expectations of her and was very scared about the class itself because you hear so many horror stories, but it's not bad at all if you go to her lectures and pay attention in discussion. At least you get to pick whatever discussion section you want because there are no quizes. Without any quizes, it might seem like you'll fall behind but if you go to lecture, you don't even need to do any extra studying from the books of even from the CDs that she suggests you buy, though I suppose they'll help you understand it even more. She's very concerned with you knowing the material and makes you feel really smart in the end because you DO walk away knowing so much more and gaining a lot of real life stuff.
MAKE SURE YOU DO HER OLD EXAMS!! Lots of questions are repeated and for the 3D structures, you'll get better and better at viewing them.
I highly suggest taking her.

I love professor Luceigh. This is the reason we go to college: to hear the spectacular lectures on a brilliant professor's viewpoint on an aspect of the world. Sure it's o-chem, but she WILL make you love it. I looked forward to each lecture (her lecture guide allows you to actually hear what she has to say and add in anything else that isn't included). She is fast paced, but only because you learn the basics throughout the quarter to put it all in perspective at the very end. For the first time in chem you can actually APPLY everything you learn to real life. She posts hella old exams so practicing helps ALOT. (All her exams are somewhat predictable). The CD-ROMS that are supplements are very helpful (go to the computer labs in Young). Don't forget to come to class on time, unless you enjoy sitting on the back, cold steps of the aisles. She is probably one of the best lectures at UCLA. The sweetest lady in the chem department for sure!

She's the greatest!!!!!! She wants you to learn the material and is more then willing to help and talk to you about any questions you may have.. the people who says that she'll be anal and all this negative stuff is all wrong she's the nicest prof! she cares alot about the students and she'll even give advice on how to prepare for her tests and she's very encouraging she wants to nourish the students education of organic Chemistry! I first heard all these scary stories about how hard she is and everything and those things are true only if you don't want to learn the material! But she makes you want to learn it and it's quite frankly freaking FUN! I've never had so much fun in chem! HNMR and C13 NMR is the greatest stuff!!!

I LOVED Luceigh's class . . . I took it over the summer, and trust me, that woman was NOT cutting out any of the material! It was fast-paced, and hard, but she is the cutest professor I have had so far. She was always doing little dances in class to act out molecules, or telling us funny stories. She really cares about you learning the material, and she will stop in the middle of class to make sure everyone understands. She uses slides, movies, drawing on the board, anything she can to help. Hers is the only class I have ever had where I felt completely welcome to interrupt her lecture to ask questions (okay, well, there was this one time I felt stupid...) Anyway it was a GREAT class and frankly it was the high point of my miserable summer! I would highly recommend her!

she does have a tougher curve, but luceigh is a great lecturer. she's very approachable and helpful - i did better in this class than i did in 14A, probably because she made the material a very interesting and accessible. i'm not sure what some other people mean by her "arrogance"...she never struck me as being so. sure, she might castigate you once in a while for not knowing some basic information, but i think the fact that she was willing to schedule extra review sessions at the beginning of the quarter to bring us up to speed is indicative of her concern for student learning.
