She left already. However, she taught pretty decently. Her lectures were too fast and hasty and made it a little difficult to learn. There was a lot of homework which was still tricky. She showed concern for her students and went overtime in office hours quite a bit. It would have been better if I read ahead in the textbook more. I barely passed the class but overall it was okay.

My friend recommended me to Stovall so I chose her over Radko but apparently I think it was a bad decision. She goes through stuff really fast and it was impossible for me to write down the note/trying to grasp the new concept at the same time. moreover, she was absent from class too many times so the lecture gets broken up a lot which made me even more confused. Another thing is that the due date for two discussions are different, for the first week of school her tuesday people get a week to do homework while thursday get like two days. Also, for thursday discussions we have to turn in three set of homework (they are fairly difficult, too) at the same time for like 3 consecutive weeks while the thursday discussion on have two set pretty much. I know she just wanted the schedule to work out but that is pretty unfair. Her midterm/final from previous quarter did nothing to prepare us for the midterm/final I had. The previous reveal summarizes accurately what her midterms/final is like. the first one is easy but the final is hard and the second midterm is super long. FOCUS ON THE HOMEWORK AND THE QUIZ!!! I saw too many homework questions on the test already. DO NOT SKIP THE HARD HOMEWORK PROBLEMS, THEY WILL BE ON THE TEST. try to do them and do them well.

I took 32A winter quarter. I think she is good teacher. She cares students much very helpful, if you go to her office hour. She gives us lots of homework to practice, but no practice exams. The first midterm, i got a little above the average, the 2nd midterm i got rank 39/210, and the final I am in top 5. Finally i got an A. At first, i didnt like her, because she always absent from the class for some reason and lots of homework. And sometimes i didnt catch up with her lecture. Afterwards, i found out people should always look at the textbook before taking her class. Anyway, she is very helpful, Always go to the review session will give u a great help. Nice professor and really beautiful.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED BETSY!

Going into this class, i was really nervous. I'm a math/econ major and lets be honest, not many people are fans of the really proofy classes. And this is one of them. I took Betsy her first quarter as a professor, she was relatively new, but SUPER NICE!

She spent a couple of days making sure that we understood the 'lingo' of the proofs and negations and simple stuff that you would think wasn't necessary but turned out to be very helpful. When she did proofs in class, they were always different from the book. Some people could see that as bad, but it helped a lot because you got to see 2 approaches rather than just 1. She was thorough and when people asked questions, she would spend the time making sure that you understood it.

Obviously, this class is an upper div proofs class. So no matter what GO TO OFFICE HOURS! The TA's and the professors. She was very welcoming and if you went in with started homework and she saw that you got the basic idea, she helps you and explains what is working and what isn't. Plus she was just a really cool person to talk to. I still keep in touch with her and i took her class a year ago.

As for the midterms (which i'm sure is the reason you are reading this) the first was really fair. We hadn't covered too many topics and i got an A on it before the curve, with some serious studying of the proofs we covered in class. The second one, we had at least 10 topics to cover but there were only 4 questions on the midterm. Let's just say no one did really well just because there was only 4 topics covered out of the 10. The final, I'm not going to lie, it was difficult. But it was doable if you learned what to study from her midterms. She's always very fair and if you ever have a question about something she'll answer it during the test. One thing I definitely noticed is that she likes to go over proofs in class that are relatively difficult, but really important. Those were the ones taht would end up on the test. She would probably do around 50-60 proofs in class, and at least one of them was on the test if not something really similar.

The class itself is difficult, so going in you should know that. Betsy is a great professor and really helpful with ANY AND ALL questions you have, in class or outside of class. I would take her again in a heartbeat!

Overall, I think she's a good teacher and definitely better than the other professors whose classes I sat in on. But, in the end, even though I worked my butt off, I feel like the only reason I got an A was because the class curve was kind in the end.

I disagree with the other person who evaluated 32A, though. She did a lot better at explaining and giving examples for the topics early on. By the end, she was just kind of throwing definitions at us and then expecting us to be able to know how to apply them in complicated ways. Part of the problem was, because this class was mostly engineers, no one was willing to ask questions so we'd all walk out of lectures in the last three weeks confused out of our minds. Though, a few times, I think she overheard the people in the front complaining and went through a few practice problems, but that was rarer.

The first midterm was really easy. As in, the mean/median were both Bs and no one complained about it. I did really poorly in part because 1) I missed a week an a half of lecture due to being too ill to even make it to the dining hall, much less to class and 2) I missed the class where she told the class to memorize the basic graph function's names. (I knew essentially how to graph an elliptic paraboloid but not that it was called that which was what was tested.) But though I did so poorly, even I know it was an easy test.

The second test was horrific. I barely hit a B- and that was top 10/15% for this midterm. The average grade was a 60%.

The final was just as bad if not worse. I got a C+ and again that was top 15% for the class.

My overall quiz grade was essentially a B.

So I guess take heart in the fact that a north campus major who never got above a B in a non-homework component of this class got an A in the end. Personally, I don't feel like I got as much as I could have out of the material in this class, but maybe that's because there was such a focus on the applications for physics over anything else.

I had Betsy for 32A my first quarter. She ended up being a pretty good teacher, although she didn't cover the simple stuff at the start very well. That's not a problem if you came in with experience with vectors though. As the content gets more difficult, I think her teaching improved. She can go into a lot of detail with the definitions and derivations of concepts, so use the textbook if you're not that type of learner. However, do be ready for a couple test questions on the definitions.

I thought her exams were very fair. They covered all the material and tested your understanding, but they weren't too difficult if you had been keeping up.
Overall, I'd say she was at least as good if not slightly better than the other professors offered, from what I could tell.
