I liked this class. Good way to weed out the weak pre-meds who can't handle real science and sequester them away to psychobio.

Professor Lazazzera was one of the 3 professors that taught MIMG 101 this Fall 2017 quarter. It was very very annoying to have 3 different professors since we have to figure out 3 different teaching styles. Professor Hill was the clearest and most engaging lecturer out of the 3. Professor lazazzera's lectures were ok, but i felt like she wasn't explaining anything. Rather, she expected we already knew all the concepts down from the reading, which never happens in any class. Would have been nice to hear more in depth explanation of things instead of half her lecture being clicker questions. Her Questions and Answers that was given out for the lectures (all besides for Hill's lecture which was reeeaaally annoying) were very helpful in understand what kind of questions were going to be on the exam. It was just difficult this quarter since 3 professors, and the first was completely knew and did not do as well of a job that us students would have liked

During regular quarter, both Hill and Lazazzera co-teach mimg101.
It was only lazazzera who taught mimg101 during summer.

You do not need a book for the exam. It is required to answer pre-assignment before each lecture. You can google and get some answers from there but you can't find some answers and need to find answers from the book. You can borrow it from the library.

What I did, Record her lecture, write everything what she said during lecture, do her study questions without looking at the answers, and check out the answers later.

She does not curve and it's straight scale. However, if the class average is super low, she will let you re-take the exam. It's basically some of questions many people missed and it's take home. However, the grades will be averaged out. For example, if you got 0 on the exam and 10 on the take home exam, your final score is 5. Also, if many people miss on certain questions, she will just give full credit to everybody.

Getting A is very possible. I just did too bad on the first exam (almost gave up on the first one and I was thinking about dropping the class).
One advice, if you cannot answer during exam, just bull shit it. I mean just write whatever comes to your mind so you can possibly get some partial credit and make sure you fully understand on study guide questions.

During office hour, she won't just give out answers to your question. Instead, she will ask you back or guide you towards right way for you to answer.

Lazazzera and Hill are pretty decent professors. With hill you don't have to do any readings and basically memorize his powerpoint slides. For Lazazzera, definitely do her required reading. Mastering microbio was easy to do and understand, it all comes from the reading and her readings are very short too.
One thing that surprised me was the extra credit, definitely come to lecture with Lazazzera and participate because she will give you extra credit depending on ur involvement with Learning Catalytics.
The exams were straight forward and very easy to do. Memorize every little part for Hill's exam such as the 8 types of bacteria, the people and their contributions to science, and other tiny details. For the other part, memorize the experiments, be sure to understand know when to use them. At the end, the professors basically bumped up everyone one letter grade depending on the average, so getting a 3.0% boost at the end will surprise you. if you got an 90/100 on ur first exam, an 80/100 on ur 2nd exam, and a 130+/150 on ur final, it is possbile to get an A

Lazazzera's lectures were kind of disorganized. Slides alone won't help you because she will speak for 15 minutes on a slide that has one big picture of a lake. Go to class the days that she lectures. for Hill you would be totally fine just listening on the audio. Lazazzera sometimes writes stuff on the board, but don't worry too much about these because if you go to discussion, or OH the TA's will cover these. Or these may be covered in the additional papers that she posts on the CCLE. Breathes a lot on the mice lol kind of annoying. Overall, her exam questions were tougher and more experiment based. Understand the experiments, why they're used to test certain questions/hypothesis. Her OH's helped. Do the additional questions!!! the exams resemble these. Get old tests from test bank, but the additional questions are key. I got 65 on 1st midterm but I just studied the lectures and was going slow on the midterm after seeing couple of easy ones, ran out of time :( I got a B on the second one. and 125/150 (B) on the final and got a B in class! overall challenging class but not too hard. (for me, it was easier than LS 3 but similar to LS3 - had Lin). didn't use the book.

Dr. Lazazzera's lecture style is very experimental based. If you understand the experiments and why it is designed like that, you will do well in this class. Also, do the extra problems she provides, it helps a lot. Ended up with an A-.

I don't why people said she is a great professor. She has an attitude during office hours and she has a terrible office hours schedule! I don't her lectures are that precise and organized. During lecture she was out of breath the entire time and which made it super annoying she she would breathe super hard through the mic. Terrible professor! Went to her office hour about my midterm grades and she gave me an attitude. Her attitude just made me felt like i am super dumb and stupid!

Dr. Lazazzera is awesome. She is very precise and very organized. True, she does talk very fast, but with the time constraints and ridiculous amount of information the class gives you, it is easy to see why. Her exam questions are tougher than Hill's, but very doable if you study. Get to know her and go to OHs, she will help you out if she gets to know your name and face in both understanding concepts and at the end of the course. I would recommend her for any course she teaches!

Very organized power points, very clear lecturer. Everybody who said she is no good didn't do well in the class and are taking it out on her. She is extremely kind and helpful in and out of class and met with me personally to go over my exam.

I don't understand why people wrote such negative comments about hill and lazazzera. I don't think they're the most amazing teachers but I think they are definitely fair. Hill is a bit of a disorganized lecturer but he writes most of his notes on the blackboard. Lazazzera has slides you can print out for all her lectures, which is really helpful. There are weekly homeworks which are good practice for the exams, and will also help to raise your grade. It's very possible to get an A in this class as long as you put in the effort.
