she is a really good professor. not only did she care about how well her students understood the material, she was very flexible with the grading. also, she is understanding. i got reallly sick during finals week and had to miss the final, and she handled the situation very well. i dont know how anyone could not pass her class with a good understanding of intro chem.
thick accent, speaks quickly, but you will get used to it. straight forward exams. extra opportunities. she helps a lot more in office hours. she is extremely concerned with her students and truly wants to help you. i felt that it really really helped me with chem 14a because i have just learned the material in chem 17 the quarter prior.
Ruiz has a very thick accent. She talks really fast and is very difficult to understand. She writes her notes really fast, so I had a hard time keeping up with them before she erased them and/or covered them. She was only available one day out of the week for two hours. Other than that, she was a very good teacher, if you like that kind of thing. She put a lot of extra time in making sure you understood the material, like holding a review for every midterm and to play catch up on the materials ppl missed from transfering into her class late. I thought that showed how dedicated she was to learning. If you went to visit her during office hours, she'd explain things much more clearly than in class. I guess it's bc she's making sure that you understand it before you leave her office. It was a P/NP class, which I passed. The final was insane, and I have no clue how I passed but I did. Definetly take her if you have a good understanding of chem and thick spanish accents. Oh and if you have time to go to her office hours. Definetly do that.
Ruiz-Silva is an awesome professor. She lectures everything that is expected of the student to know. The problem is, she lectures at a rapid pace. At times during this course all I did was write but not understand. Other than that I would recommend her. She always has hand outs and she is always willing to help if you need it.
Being a first year, it was nice to come into a class where the professor was well-organized, clear and of course kind. Her accent was a bit difficult to understand at first but eventually it grows on you. She knew what she was talking about and if you didn't catch it the first time, she would give you an explanation from another perspective. Professor Silva is an awesome teacher!
professor silva is really nice and cares about her students. she does go through the material kind of fast but if u have questions you can email her and she will definetly respond. her midterms are not difficult as long as you study and go to class. Also, read the book and when you do the homework problems make sure u understand the concepts. she always encourages her students to do their best and if you have any problems you can always talk to her. even if you do bad in the first midterm dont get discouraged, instead talk to her because she will make you feel confident. overall she is the best teacher.
Dr. Silva was a great professor, i only wished i took more advatage of the class. 9AM was not a good time to be listening to chemistry but as long as you tried in the class, you learned what you needed to. She was fantastic, caring and knew what she was talking about! Definitely take her if you hate or don't remember a thing you learned in high school chemistry!
Prof. Silva is a great professor who really knows how to convey her knowledge to the students. Her lectures are structured and she teaches the subject in such a lucid manner that anyone could understand. The exams are very easy as long as you put the time and effort to go to all the lectures and read the book as a supplement to her lectures. If you hated chem before like I did then you'll just love it after you take this class.
I've always had horrible chem teachers where I never learned anything. I dreaded taking this class, but now, I love chem!!! She is one of the best professors I've taken. She explains everything so clearly and she is also very organized, so the lectures run very smoothly. You learn all the basic concepts of chemistry so thoroughly, making your next chem class a lot easier. I highly recommend her!
