To all you who believe Professor Little needs to be called out on this, email his supervisor *************, he needs to hear more.

I honestly was shocked at this guy. First of all, he is "funny", but his humor is derived from claiming he sees a therapist and has issues. Also, he not only plays favorites, but like many recounted, he gave A's to 14 people for FREE and exempted them from 35% of our grade (the final), because he believed they were great and deserved it. Free A in Upper Div English class? 1. what a joke, what does our degree even mean if you get a "gold star" freebee A? Or that you took the final? One of the two. 2. Illegal and Unprofessional 3. UCLA = joke.

Professor Little shows grading in this major IS subjective through this, and that by kissing up and going to office hours it is possible to achieve an 'A'.

Aside from having issues, putting down students (he does not agree with anything people say. Some kids in our class even read criticism and came to class claiming this stuff as 'their own ideas', when it came from professional minds, and he would knock it down within 45 seconds.

IS LATE ALL THE TIME. Does not begin lecture for about 30 minutes because he is absorbed in talking to and picking on random students to make the class laugh.

Out of an hour and a half lecture, the average the lecture would last was 40 minutes. This irritated me so much, especially because I am paying good money for my "education".

I do not recommend Little in any way, shape, or form except as a court jester.

You would not believe how much this man plays favorites. I know what you are thinking: favorites, really? YES.

Please don't assume that I am exaggerating. There is a 1/25 chance you will be his absolute favorite. Go ahead, take the risk and see for yourself.

Professor Little is an amazing professor-- one of the best! Before him, I abhorred Shakespeare's plays, but after I took his class, I became a fan. Not only is Professor Little passionate and informed, but he makes learning fun. Do not expect an easy A, but do not expect rocket science grading either. If you do the reading and thoroughly engage with the reading and lecture, you should be fine. I would definitely recommend taking his class!!

The person who is defending the favoritism probably got a free A. Bravery and extrovertedness in the classroom or willingness to participate should not constitute a grade

Professor Little's 142B class has been one of my absolute favorites. He is engaging, passionate, and concerned about his students' education. He may have an unorthodox method when it comes to walking into class and getting his lectures going, but is that relevant if his lectures bring to bear new and profound interpretations of the most traditional of English authors? Some people on here complain about his punctuality and "favoritism." His punctuality in my class wasn't a matter of him not respecting his students' time. He made it clear time and again that he was coming straight from another lecture. I know how difficult it is as a student to go straight from one class to another, so I can only imagine a professor needs an extra bit of time to regenerate and launch into a new subject. As for his favoritism, every professor in the English department responds dramatically and favorably to students who make the effort to participate in class and visit during office hours. This is especially true in classes where the professor consistently asks students what they think. While there maybe a handful of students who are so painfully shy that they can't raise their hands in front of a room full of peers, the majority of students who never raise their hands to contribute need to either resign themselves to being off the prof's radar, or speak up. Even in my section, where my T.A. was ridiculously nice and easy going, and the people in the room numbered 20, only 5-8 people at any given meeting ever bothered to respond to the T.A.'s questions. Silences at times were embarrassing. It shouldn't matter whether or not some people were exempt from taking the final or not. Is it fair that all those people who never bothered to say anything or ask questions or help further the lecture should be graded equally to those who came to class not only having read the material, but having considered it and taken the risk to say something about it?

He allowed 9 students selected by the TAs to get automatic As on the final. No need to take the final.
He personally chose 4 people to get automatic As in the class. No grading period.

This made the remaining 107 or so of us feel pretty bad. Pretty obvious favoritism here.

Everyone should be forewarned. Prof. Little can be entertaining, but a lot of the times his antics were really annoying, like when he'd go off on a tangent about how horrible Riverside is in the middle of a King Lear lecture.
No question that the man is brilliant. But is he a good professor? I think that answer depends of whether you were one of those 13 people who got free rides.

I had to take Professor Little for both Shakespeare courses. He was ALWAYS late. Then when he finally got to glass he'd spend an extra 10-15 minutes chatting with his favorite students up front. I got so annoyed that I started recording every day the time he actually began lecturing. For a class that was supposed to begin at 2:00pm, he often started lecturing on actual material later than 2:30. I really liked Shakespeare and looked forward to reading the plays, but Prof. Little's blatant disrespect for his students time rubbed me the wrong way.

Also, he plays favorites. Heavily. He chooses "hard-working" students (aka those who talk to him on a regular basis) for automatic A's on the final. I didn't even know Professors were allowed to DO that.
