he's very interesting and funny. on fridays, he would always do a fun demonstration that would keep the class enthralled. first time i've ever seen people willingly stay past class time to listen to a professor. first midterm was super easy. second midterm was a killer. final was also a killer. but the curve is low, so passing isn't too difficult. in the end- work hard, memorize the types of problems he does in class, and read the book to understand the concepts better. he's a great professor, but sometimes he is hard to understand. he also assumes you have a background of physics and/or read the book.
i had art for spring quarter of 2010. i honestly was not too interested in physics at all thanks to high school physics courses, but he, honestly, really made it quite easy to understand the materials. awesome professor that showed lots of demonstrations and cracked jokes quite often. his first midterm was a joke where mean was around high 90's with more than enough people getting 100's on the midterm! most definitely take his course if he does come around again from his on-and-about retirement, but from what i heard from him he might return back to his retirement :(
Dr. Huffman is my favourite professor at UCLA. He is not only a good teacher who uses a lot of examples, but he has a really good heart. He genuinely cares about people, and I think that is really rare. His office hours are amazing and he is very open to not just talking about physics, but also his hobbies, other physical theories, and all sorts of neat things. He also has a terrific sense of humour and is great fun...who else dresses up as a wizard for Halloween and tells scientific scary stories? It's fantastic. His tests are very fair and his study sheets that he provides are incredibly helpful. If you do not take Dr. Huffman for physics, you are definetely missing out.
Huffman is a fair professor. His tests are not overly complicated or tricky (his midterm averages were not in the 80s as the below poster asserts: MD1 78/100, MD2 69/100, Final 137/200). Some of his explinations are not totally clear, and he is sometimes difficult to follow in lecture. However, if you study the material on your own you will have no problems on his exams. Additionally, the discussion sections helped to clarify certain topics. His lectures were entertaining with frequent demos, videos, and humerous ancedotes. Overall, a good and fair professor.
This class is NOT easy, nor is Professor Huffman. He doesn't explain Physics at all, he just does derivations which you don't even need to know for the exams. He says that everything that is on the midterm is mentioned on the review sheet, but not everything mentioned on the review sheet will be on the exam. There was NO curve for the first midterm. Some of his questions are so ridiculously easy while other questions SEEM easy but have some trick to it that you never learned! You have to apply what you learned even though you never did an example like it in homework. There was one problem that totally screwed everyone over. He DOES NOT bump you up or give you the 1 point at the end of the quarter. If you have an 89.99999% you have a B+...no questions asked. Students found him to be hillarious and were amazed with his experiments. I thought they were nothing special, but I would have rather had a professor who can teach then make me laugh. Overall, I would not recommend him.
