I took the Henrik Ibsen class with Professor Lunde. Honestly, I can say that this professor is the epitome of kindness, justice, compassion, intelligence, and overall perfection. He is an EXCELLENT professor and I heartily recommend you all take this class! I cannot remember a day I was bored in class; Lunde speaks with passion, fire, and great knowledge. He encourages student participation and he is respectful of every opinion and comment. So participate! He answers all questions and is extremely patient. The plays are wonderful, deep, and meaningful; I loved reading them! Every week you must read one play. He explains them thoroughly so take good notes as these will help you on the essay midterm and final, which are fair. He gives you a study sheet so you are guided when studying for exams. He is a professor looking to help, not harm his students. Professor Lunde kindly encourages students to go to lectures by visiting professors which are related to Scandinavian Studies. I have learned so much in this course and it has changed the way I view life. This class has enriched my education. His grading was very fair and he rewards hard work. Professor Lunde also allows creativity in projects/papers, which is rare I feel. The project was enjoyable and allowed me to think critically and creatively at the same time. My advice to you is to read all plays, take good notes, participate, attend class, go to outside lectures, and prepare well for exams (read notes/make outlines for essays)and you should be fine. Professor Lunde is the BEST and I would take another class with him!

Mr. Lunde is by far the best professor I have had at UCLA. I would recommend his class to anyone. He is amazing! He is kind, intelligent, funny, and overall a wonderful person and professor. Although he does assign a good amount of reading, it is all very interesting and intriguing. It is not boring or tedious, but he actually assigns stories that are page turners. His midterm itself was average, but he grades so easily everyone in the class received a good grade. He even told us that he wanted to give everyone good grades. I loved this class and him! Everything you would want in a teacher, Mr. Lunde has. TAKE HIM!

Summer 2020 - If you have not taken Professor Lunde yet you are missing out. He is not only immensely passionate about the subject but he cares about his students so much. I have become a Scandinavian minor because of him and I highly recommend it. Any Scand. class that I enroll in is taught by him. He is the best!

Fall 2023 - I can’t recommend this class enough! It offers an incredibly interesting analysis of Ingmar Bergman's life and how it reflects broader Swedish societal issues through his filmmaking. The workload is very manageable and well organized. Personally, I found the learning experience enjoyable, as it lacked the drudgery associated with many of my other tedious and unfulfilling assignments. Professor Lunde is amazing- incredibly kind, down to earth, and prioritizes the success of every student. Regardless of your academic focus, whether it be Scandinavian culture and history, film studies, or even a STEM student seeking an easier GE, this class will undoubtedly leave you with something positive. The value of the education and the human connection fostered in this class far outweigh any quantifiable measure of difficulty.
