Professor Russell is by far one of the sweetest professors you will ever meet. However, 14BL sucks, and taking this class with her does not make it any better. Nothing in the class was taught well. All the lectures were hard to understand because she was going over information that you were going to use two weeks from that lecture. This is why her class does so poorly on midterms. Average was around 60%. If you have to take this class definitely take it with the Professor with the highest A rate (Casey).
Dr. Russell is a very genuine person. Kind of reminds you of a sweet grandma. She’s extremely caring and really wants her students tp understand the material.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t help with the class, whatsoever. The midterm, as said by another reviewer, is an extreme time crunch. The average on the exam was a 60%, and so Dr. Russell was forced to compensate for that by allowing our final exam to count as our midterm grade AND our final exam grade. Weekly lecture is absolutely pointless. Her PowerPoint slides are unclear and to be frank, no help at all. About 1/3 of the kids in the class actually attend lecture. Pre-labs and post-labs are where you’ll score the most points to boost your grade; they’re just really time consuming. Overall, this class was not one of my favorites, and I felt that Dr. Russell could have done much better at preparing her students for the midterm and final exams.
Selling all my old pre and post labs(includes data) for only $5! Also have the Chemistry Experiments for Life Science Majors (3rd edition) for $9. And the Techniques in OC for $6. Prices negotiable, email me at *************.
For a 3 unit class, 14bl is way too much work. Don't bother going to class, but make sure you do the practice exercises that Russell puts up on CCLE. The midterm and final aren't too hard if you do the study questions and practice exercises.
