Winter 2020 - Anu Vikram is the only professor teaching this course at UCLA, and it’s required in our department. But this class is pretentious, and the professor can be unhelpful. Vikram wants to lecture and get out, and doesn’t care to answer your basic questions. If you ask, they will ignore you. It happened twice in my lecture series. Don’t understand what modernity is? Don’t get what the homework assignment is? Ask your TA instead. Professor Anu will make you feel bad for asking.

Winter 2022 - i hated this class because of the professor. the content and workload was fine and manageable, but the prof was so awful. she could never fit all the content into the THREE HOUR LONG LECTURE. THREE HOURS WAS NOT ENOUGH FOR HER? everything was rushed and went over the time limit. she was not clear about anything and struggled to clarify questions. she was very eager to go back in person that she split the 3 hour long lecture into 2 classes each 1.5 hour lectures because the room was not big enough for everyone to go as one lecture. i just did not enjoy the class at all because of her. my ta was really nice and understanding though. we basically had to write discussion posts every week on the readings and write a couple papers for the midterm and final on artists and artwork and their impact. easy class, bad prof. avoid this as a ge if you can

Spring 2020 - I took this class all 3 quarters of my recent freshman year. This was the first time Anu was teaching this class with a whole new curriculum, so like mentioned before it was a bit disorganized and a little hard to follow but our grades were taken into account accordingly. Throughout the year the class became easier to follow and everything started becoming more coherent and the structure got better. I really enjoyed having Anu as a teacher, she’s very caring and engaged in the topic and I’m thankful i got to take this class with her.
