Easiest class I've taken at UCLA! I loved the topic of developmental communication, how children learn to speak. The class is just 10 weekly quizzes (you can use your notes and the slides), each are 10% of your grade. Totally recommend!

I can't recommend this class enough! If you are a Comm major, you should absolutely take this, whether to fulfill the Interpersonal Comm core requirement or for an elective. Professor Warlaumont is very passionate and knowledgable about the subject, so coming to class is fun and is very informative. The subject matter is really interesting, since it's about how babies learn to communicate. The lectures are recorded. The grade breakdown was 90% weekly online, not-timed quizzes, and 10% weekly discussion posts. This class was amazing, and I highly suggest all Comm majors take it if they can!

This class is an easy A. The grading is 90% weekly quizzes and 10% discussion forum posts. This quarter Professor Warlaumont didn't set any deadlines, so you could wait until Week 10 to open CCLE for this class and you could still get an A as long as you completed everything by the deadline. She records all lectures and puts them on CCLE, which was super helpful. All of the weekly quizzes are about 10 questions and are based on the weekly reading and lectures, but you get two quiz attempts, no time limit, and they're open book. The material itself is interesting, and it's nice that you get to enjoy the material instead of worrying about memorizing it for a test. Professor Warlaumont isn't the best lecturer, as she often goes on tangents, but she's super knowledgeable about the field nonetheless. The discussion posts are also super easy, as it's basically just interacting with your classmates and talking about your personal experiences with the material or just asking questions. You basically just get credit for participating. Highly recommend this class – I genuinely feel like I've learned a lot about infant language development that will prove useful to me once I have children.

Grading is 90% quizzes and 10% discussion board. There is one online quiz each week, but they are open book and aren't actually due until finals week. All lectures, slides, and readings are posted (no textbook). I loved this class because it takes about 30 minutes per week to click through the slides and then ace the weekly quiz. I highly recommend this class to anyone from any major.

I took Dr. Warlaumont’s Communication Development course in Fall 2020 when it was online. The course consisted of weekly assessments in the form of open-book quizzes and participation in an online discussion forum. The lecturers were asynchronous and were about an hour long, two days a week. I found that taking detailed notes helped me with the quizzes since they could ask really specific questions from what was said in lecture. Toward the last half of the class, she also accommodated us by allowing us to make up our missed quiz points through assignments where we had to explain why we had gotten a question wrong. This was actually very helpful for me in reviewing and fully grasping the materials. Although the content was framed in a more scientific and linguistic way than I had thought, it was still really interesting and made me think about the way infants communicate in a way I never have before. For the last week, instead of a quiz, you have to write a short research paper on a class-related topic of your choice. Our TA, Jessica Shropshire, was great and available to meet with us. Overall, Dr. Warlaumont seemed really personable in the lecturers and discussion forums, and I found the class to be really manageable because of its asynchronous format.

I loved Professor Warlaumont. She is so sweet and very understanding of students during this time (took this class during COVID). Not to mention, she is very well-versed in this subject because she has endured in many research papers/projects that you will get to read in this class. I really wish I got to take this class in-person because she seems like such a kind soul.

Your grade is made up of 9 quizzes worth 9% of your final grade (1 quiz each week). Quizzes are untimed and can be completed at your own pace. And if you mess up on your quiz, you are able to submit quiz corrections with the explanation why you got it wrong, and she will give points back to you.
Week 10 there was a short, 1 page research paper (worth 9% of your final grade) on a topic of your choice, but you'll basically get full credit for completing all guidelines.
The last 10% of your grade is participation, so you have to post 10 comments/posts/reactions/words of affirmation on the discussion board. It can be as short or as long as you want it to be, but most people write 3-4 sentences each.

All lectures were pre-recorded and uploaded ahead of the week. I finished this class with a 100% in my grade because of how favorable her grading scheme was, but I was also very interested in every topic that we learned. Such a great class. I will definitely take more classes with Anne in the future.

Professor Warlamount is great. She's very sweet, easily accessible if you need help, and very understanding. Some of her quiz questions can be a bit tricky so make sure you really pay attention to the lectures and exactly what she's asking. No books were required, all materials were provided.

This class was an easy A. The professor is very lenient and assignments are pretty straightforward. The class consists of weekly quizzes, so a total of 9 for the quarter, 10 discussion posts, and a short research paper for the final. Quizzes are multiple choice, open book, and have no time limit. She also provides "make-up" assignments that are optional and help you gain back points you lost on the quizzes. The lectures are a little slow, but you need to watch them to do well on the quizzes. Discussion posts are on any topic you want and have no word count. The short paper is 1 page on a topic you like and very doable. Overall, this class is a breeze.
