Dr. Hong is one of a kind! She's funny, nice, knowledgeable and tries her best to make us understand. The class is totally doable and not as hard as people expect. Her tests are fair and the lab portion is not too bad, just time consuming.
Dr. Hong is really nice and approachable, and I really like her as a person. Unfortunately, she isn't the best professor. She doesn't communicate clearly or explain concepts very well. It makes it even more difficult because her lectures aren't podcasted. The class is broken down into lecture participation, labs, lab quizzes, a midterm and a final. I received an A on everything except the midterm and final which brought me down to a B. I followed her study guide and understood everything for the midterm, but the actual midterm did not reflect the study guide so I didn't get the best grade. Her tests are somewhat misleading. If you take this class and want to get an A the best advice I can give is to just know every concept whether it's on the study guide or not. Don't be fooled into thinking that she'll only test concepts that are on the study guide. She'll ask a lot of unexpected questions.
Dr. Hong is not the best at explaining concepts but some of her TAs are great. However, Dr. Hong is very nice and approachable. She did not podcast her lectures during this quarter so it was extremely hard to understand a few concepts. The lab reports take a long time so make sure to start early on them. To ace her exams, make sure to go through all her review questions and her slides. The exams are actually very fair. So I would say doing well on the lab reports will determine your grade in the class.
