If you are simply interested in this subject and in discussing gender relations, still don't take this class. I am personally not a classics major and it was not a requirement on the class listing that you even have take any kind of lower division classics class, but she certainly expected you to know as much as she does in her 40 years of post-doc. I had just taken a class about ancient gender studies so I was so excited for this class, but Amy Richlin ruined the subject for me. If you didn't know that some random emperor had passed some law in 542 BCE or whatever and failed to include the gravity of the situation in a test answer that had pretty much nothing to do with said random law, she would take points off. Yikes, stay away unless you absolutely have to.
