Winter 2023 - I took this class because I needed PSYCH10A as a pre req but halfway through the quarter I no longer needed it, but I still stuck around. Point is, even though that class wasn’t needed I still really found the content interesting & was my favorite class this quarter. She is really CLEAR and her lecture slides are always posted. ALTHOUGH, I took notes on a laptop during lecture & then hand wrote them afterwards to understand and go over content, and it really helped a lot. She was very accommodating as her lectures were recorded and posted online so it was very helpful. She seems very passionate about this topic , which is why I think I enjoyed it so much. I wish my major and her classes intersected more because she’s probably my top fav professors. The pace is not too slow nor too fast, and the grade is FAIRLY distributed. I personally don’t like when grades are literally half midterms & a final. She distributed the grade as follows: -15% quizzes on bruinlearn (which were fairly easy if you pay attention) - 6% article analyses - labs 15% (which were easy & some were in groups) - mini assignments 3% (again fairly easy and light workload) - 14%: survey& experimental lab reports: - 17% midterm - 30% final I got basically got majority/full credit on the assignments & quizzes. On the midterm I got an B. Final a B- & was able to finish the course with an A-. The interesting part of this class was the SONA research credit requirement. You basically participate in UCLA studies and you get credits :) you schedule your studies around your schedule so you do it during your time before the end of the quarter (she gives a specific date) Sorry for the lengthy review, but I wanted to thoroughly touch on every part of this class. She was a very engaging professor & I really enjoyed her class! Take this class with Professor Ankowski if you can!

Spring 2020 - I took this class as P/NP and I highly recommend this for everyone! I messed up on one assignment and scored one SD below the section's mean and that's when I knew I wouldn't get any A. This class is so ridiculously competitive; weighting your grade based on the scores of others in your class is extremely unfair. You have to beat all of your classmates by a significant margin in every single section assignment as well as kill your final paper to have a chance at an A. I messed up on one and even though the rest went really well, I knew I wouldn't get an A. There are lab participation points, which is basically answering questions during lab. This is where people get strangely competitive... The lecture portion is fairly straightforward. It was recorded ahead of time and the prof chose to make them even longer than class time usually was, they were often around the 2 hour mark. If you do the practice exams (all of them!!) and FaceTime a friend, you can expect a mid 90s grade. Prof adjusted the class for pandemic by weighing the lecture portion of the class as 40% and section as 60%, and based on protests by making the lecture exam portion the higher of your two exam grades. Another assignment that was due at the end of the week was graded due to completion only.

Winter 2017 - Class is very doable as long as you skim over the material she went over in class in the textbook and participate in your discussion group. Doing SONA experiments for extra credit is basically necessary if you want to end with an A in this class, it adds 2% to your overall grade. I'm selling the think like a baby book **********

Winter 2021 - Pretty easy lab. I like how everything was weighted equally, for ex: assignments 25%, paper 25%, participation 25......etc. It took a lot of weight off my shoulders. I was able to get an A pretty easily by always attending lecture and completing every assignment (received full points). I got a 93 on both my paper and poster. 8 page maximum, but I only did 6 and still got an A. I recommend this lab with Ankowski, however; she's a bit intimidating. I always went to the TA's office hours because of that. She doesn't seem welcoming but when you talk to her, she's pretty cool and helpful

Winter 2020 - This was my 3rd time taking her, she was my professor for Research Methods and Language Development, however, I would never take her again after taking her Cognitive Development course. She messed up my GPA by giving us a tricky online final that consisted of 100 T/F questions that were supposedly "simplified." She could've had more compassion for students that were going through things because the COVID-19 is very stressful for everybody. Professors were even given the choice to make changes to their final exams and she didn't do anything.
