Lipman gives very engaging lectures. Some people found the tests tricky, but it is because you have to remember some vocab and be able to apply it to different situations. She is overall a good professor.
This class is fun and very helpful however I hate their grading system because they give ambiguous instructions and then don’t give you good points no matter how good your paper was or how satisfied your client is. Lipman is not a straight forward Professor and you should know that before enrolling.
She is never sure and confident in a subject she teaches and when you ask her a question she doesn’t give you a straight forward answer! I just feel like her class is tricky to take and she gives ambiguous questions
The subject material is interesting and the workload is very manageable. However, I hesitate to recommend this class unless you are sure the grader for your exams is actively involved in the class and will be accessible to answer questions. Often the grader would place red question marks next to answers with no explanation or advice for improvement, or deduct points for reasons such as a solution already being implemented in a region of the world.
This class is a great GE! It gives you an overview of all the environmental problems we are facing today without going too into detail on any topic. There's a midterm and a test which are both pretty straightforward and easy. There's one lifestyle change project that was pretty fun to do, and you also need to write a book report on any book related to environmental issues. I liked that this class focused more on being informative rather than on grades. Also, yo u really don't need to buy the textbook. Professor Lipman is great, and I would recommend going to her office hours--she always has some sort of project going on that you can help out with (and looks good on your resume).
Professor Lipman is an AMAZING professor. She is truly passionate about the topic she teaches, which is why she makes class so interesting. This class is not difficult to excel in, as long you attend lectures and do well on your labs, you'll be fine. There is a ton of group work on labs and also on exams (if students attend lectures). This is a great GE I STRONGLY recommend to take.
THIS CLASS IS LIFE CHANGING!! LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT AND I ALSO BECAME A VEGETARIAN PERMANENTLY AFTER TAKING IT :) If you're not good at science, this class is for you cause there's no science knowledge involved; all you learn about is what is happening to the environment and how we can change that! Also, both the midterms and finals are done in groups so honestly don't think twice just take that class it's brilliant!
Class was interesting and fun. Overall, not bad. Discussion quizzes are easy and midterms and finals are very doable. I am selling the 2nd edition textbook (useful for clarifying ideas)...text me at **********
Professor Lipman was very passionate about the subject and she kept the class engaged. Due to the reviews on Bruinwalk, she did make the class a little harder than expected. For the group projects on labs and the lifestyle change, make sure you hold everyone accountable because lab grades were low at the beginning of the quarter. Overall, a great class and I would take it again.
Taking this class over the summer, we went over a lot of content pretty quickly. The classes were long, however, Lipman would give us a 10 minute break in the middle. She is very nice and an engaging lecture. She works hard to make sure the students are learning, and is trying out different teaching styles for what helps students learn the best. She like a having a lot of time for students to discuss topics, and then share with the class what we came up with. The tests are very fair, but there are a lot of group projects in this class. She actually allows for group midterms/finals, so long as attendance to lecture remains constant throughout the quarter. I would take a class from her again.
