I love Patananan!! He's such a nice, funny guy who is genuinely concerned about student learning. This was the first time he taught 153A, and I think he did an excellent job. This class is notoriously a massacre, but I feel like he succeeded in making it very manageable. His exams weren't a breeze but they weren't necessarily difficult, but I still feel like I learned a lot. He also offered a bunch of extra credit. 10/10 would take again
This class wasn't easy but I really enjoyed it. The prof is engaging and helpful, always going above & beyond to assist confused students. Wording on exams can definitely be tricky, but otherwise they're pretty straightforward. Dr Patananan did a great job adapting to the online platform, e.g. discussion forum for questions on exams that everyone can see. The birds were a plus :)
Dr. Patananan was a great professor for this class! Definitely recommend taking 153A with him if you have to take it. He was generous with grading through participation/iClicker points and extra credit assignments. Tests were difficult but fair, and I found them easier and more forgiving because a large portion was free response. Dr. Patananan really cares about student learning and is a great professor! Great class and professor overall :)
Amazing professor! Took this class online, so it was definitely easier than biochem normally probably is, but Doc played a huge part in making the class material more digestable. He's very welcoming and open to student questions, and he truly cares about our understanding and tries to make the class applicable to our future careers. For his first time being the professor of a class, I thought he was better than many of the experienced professors I've had in the past. Listening to/attending his lectures is definitely important, as his slides are only a supplement to his lectures and won't be able to replace them.
Doc is an amazing professor, and I really enjoyed his class. His lectures are very manageable, especially since this was his first time teaching and it was a fast-paced summer class. The first midterm was not too difficult, the second one definitely was harder but still manageable. The final was hard, as he wants you to apply what you've learned rather than just memorize facts or mechanisms, but you will be all set if you do all of the discussion worksheets and attend lectures/do the iClicker questions. I came in apprehensive about taking biochem, but Patananan definitely made it a much more enjoyable experience. Plus, he shows his birds in lecture too sometimes, and offers a generous amount of extra credit. I would definitely recommend choosing Patananan if you have the opportunity to take this class with him.
