She is very difficult, and her midterms are very hard. You have to memorize proofs and definitions as well as know how to apply the concepts learned. There is never any time to finish the midterm, but since the midterms are so hard, the curve is very low (around 60%). Also, if you decide to take Barbaro, make sure you get Josh as your TA. He's great! Overall, I don't think her teaching is terrible. I think she's better than Oberlin, and she's very nice.

I've taken PIC10A, math 170A and am taking math 135 with Dr. Barbaro, and she is my favorite professor at UCLA. Her exams are often tough and long and require extensive studying, though her homework is usually given in reasonable amounts. She is extremely available to help you understand the problems, and will put problems directly from the homework onto the exams so that some of the proofs/problems look familiar. I am impressed by the way she often provides alternative ways of understanding concepts, she gives skeletons to all the proofs she does so that it is easy to understand and study them for the exams, and she will give you extra material to help you study. Best of all though, she is extremely nice and really cares that her students are understanding the material. She never gets upset if she has to repeat things or if students get totally lost.

I took pic10B. W/ this professor. Indeed, I guess she's the only professor who NEVER responses to students email. She is so irresponsible. Please avoid taking her class! If you can't you will need to study very hard on your own. Going to her lectures is a joke - useless and time wasting. But you still need to go to her class. Why? Because she never posted the study materials to the class website on time. The only way you can keep in touch with the class is going to the lecture to see if she makes any adjustments to the exam or assignment. Also, never trust her. She always promised to upload the exam study outline, but end up posting the outline few hours before the exam. Many students did not know she actually posted the outline until they finished the exam. What a nice professor!huh?

I really don't understand where all the hate in these reviews here is coming from... Yeah, her exams are pretty difficult, but she's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. She'd go out of her way to help a student who needs it. I think she's leaving for a different university this Summer and it's too bad, she really was awesome.

PIC 10a isn't available in the dropdown box, but this review is for that course. In regards to the TA comments below, I feel people should be aware that this is the same TA who wrote abusive comments on students' exams, and couldn't be bothered coming into class the three weeks leading up to the exam. He obviously has some sort of personal vendetta against Professor Barbaro, though I can't imagine why. As for the class its self, I found the lectures interesting, and Professor Barbaro was both helpful and insightful during office hours. She was even willing to schedule additional appointments with me outside of office hours when I needed extra help. It seemed like the majority of students complaining about the exams were the ones who never bothered coming to class. This is college, you have to put the work in in order to get grades. Those of you making personal attacks may have done better in the class if you'd showed up and paid attention rather than wasting time on Facebook. My friends and I did well in this class, and definitely recommend this professor.
