This class condenses about 1 and a half classes into one. It may seem like a lot of content each week, but it is much easier to learn especially if you already are familiar with Spanish and even more so if you have taken Spanish classes here at UCLA. The activities were very fun over zoom and there is a required textbook that is very easy to follow through. I would take notes from the online textbook and it would take me a while, but you have the option to directly take notes onto that online textbook. The weekly assignments were kind of a lot, but you have multiple attempts to do them so as to get a perfect score. Overall, this class was super helpful at learning Portuguese, and Alessandra was amazing at teaching about the cultures and sound patterns that are prevalent through Brazilian Portuguese.
This class was very easy, had little work to do, and was a great opportunity to practice speaking Portuguese while also learning more about the cultures that use this language. A group project was required, but it honestly only took me like 30 minutes to research and do my part. It was only once a week, for 3 hours. If you are taking 2 5 unit courses and need 2 extra units, this is a great option to fill those 2 units up.
