Anyone can tell that this professor is a genius. He teaches us real things and includes real data and research for every lecture. His lectures are incredibly fascinating, and he holds review sessions in preparation for finals, which was INCREDIBLY helpful. He is intimidating to approach, but rest assured that he cares more than anything about your education and your understanding of the material. He does not, however, answer many emails because he is busy (I mean, it's expected for a man of his stature), but you always have teaching assistants who answer questions for you. Take his class, and your life will forever be changed.

Honestly, there's no reason not to do well in his class. There are a lot of people who complain about the term paper, but honestly, Dr. Garfinkel is wiling to help you if you are struggling during his office hours. The way he teaches really draws you in, and it is one of the few classes where you will not be bored during lecture.Yes, the class is difficult, but it's only difficult if you aren't on top of your work, which is what all college classes should be like. You are given everything that you need to know, and his lectures are absolutely fantastic. He, like many people below have commented, is absolutely brilliant, and I'm honored to be able to write a review for him after 4 years (finally fixed his bruinwalk page?). I still remember everything that I've learned from his class, and am now applying everything I've learned into my field of research. This class is INCREDIBLY important, and I see it as utterly revolutionary. Dr. Garfinkel, thank you very much for your brilliant teaching.

This man is absolutely incredible- you MUST take his 135 modeling class! My absolute favorite professor at UCLA!!!
