Moreno's 31b is just a super straightforward class. Very good at teaching and made the concepts pretty easy to understand. My only complaint is that I felt like we were rushing through the last week and that was the only material I didn't really understand.
The class is fairly easy overall (granted I took BC in high school but covid happened so I barely learned any of the material). The two midterms and final were super difficult compared to the HW, but the 24 hour format allowed most people to do well on it. Class medians were around 90%.
Participation was in the form of campuswire participation where you had to earn 250 points by the end of the quarter. So easy, literally half the class got enough points within an hour and didn't have to worry about it ever again. And he also gave 1% extra credit for submitting an evaluation.
So overall, Dr. Moreno formats this class to set you up for success. You do have to put in effort to learn the material, but it shouldn't be too bad.
First, this man has style, absolute fashion icon. Also, very funny and a great professor. Definitely recommend taking him, he explains things very well and his midterms and finals were very fair, I just made dumb mistakes that brought my grade down. His office hours were really helpful and I hope UCLA offers him a forever contract to work here because he's so good. I want to take another class with him because he's entertaining and a great teacher who really cares about his students.
TLDR: Take this class, but do not slack off for the final.
Excellent professor. Always willing to help. Gives clear directions and posts practice midterms and finals. You know exactly what you're in for.
Math 31B is a complex class and he makes it a lot simpler. Take him but do not slack off for the final just because you did well on the midterms. I did that and fucked my grade up.
Moreno was undeniably an excellent teacher. Very charismatic and clear with his lectures, he made learning the subject relatively easy. Though he does go fast sometimes in lecture, he has no problem explaining his work if you ask it of him. Homeworks were very light but very vital to learning the material and graded based on accuracy. As this is his first time teaching the class, he ended up making the midterms apparently too easy (with high means: 40/42 and 44/50) and overcompensated by making the final a pretty difficult 20 question multiple choice test. By making it a short mc test, he effectively "separated the A's and the B's in the class" which was his goal as stated in lecture, and sadly ended up happening to me (rip my 100% on the 1st midterm and A on the 2nd). Even though I ended with a grade I was unhappy with, I am so glad I had Moreno for 31B as I believe he made the class an infinite amount of times better and easier as it could have been. I can definitely say I have a hard time believing people who say 31B is a difficult course as he makes it seem easy.
Definitely agree with all the other reviewers and wish I could take Adam for all my other math classes. He's great at explaining concepts and he's also pretty funny at times. Midterms were chill, homework is easy, but definitely do all the practice problems to study for the exams. I got absolutely destroyed on the final, mostly because I sat in the back and couldn't see some of his examples. He gave us practice problems for the midterms, which were really helpful and almost identical to the exams, but make sure you study every little example he writes on the board for the final. The textbook is alright, but I would go to office hours or watch a youtube vid if you don't understand something.
Moreno is a great 31B prof (granted I took Calc BC in highschool), but still he makes it super clear and is really helpful. Has amazing disney graphic tee and flannel combos. Tests were pretty easy so far, like actually easy our first midterm the average was like 37/42. My TA william baker was also great mostly becasue he was funny and excited about math but very helpful and good at explaining things. Would recommend both Moreno and baker
He's a great lecturer. To most people, it was a good experience but for me, I am not that good with conceptual questions so the exams were pretty tough and I didn't do well (even though others did). However, the TAs were amazing and the HW was reasonable and light and I understood the material. There was no curve or extra credits which I found to be kind of tough but normal for a math class. We did get a 1% extra for doing the evaluation. I watched lectures but also got so much help from youtube videos of the organic chem tutor. Overall, if you did not take AP classes or feel like you lack in the conceptual side and you value your grades more than your understanding, I would recommend taking another professor.
I suck at / despise Math but Adam's engaging teaching style and approachable personality made it at least tolerable. He is a really cool guy and clearly knows his stuff. He rarely stumbles over himself in lecture and has a firm grasp on all the material, teaching at a fast yet manageable pace. Highly recommend this wonderful man as a professor.
