This class was so hard. About 1000000 pages of reading to each week and the 3 quizzes a quarter nit picked on the most random details. The final was really hard and after 13 hours of studying I got a 70%. The papers are graded super hard as well, but are pretty interesting to write.
WARNING: A LOT OF READINGS (but all the readings are provided so you don't need to spend $$). Don't bother to buy the Course Reader. I didn't even use it.
The class itself was quite interesting, it really made you be more aware of issues that you may not ever encounter in any other class (e.g. intersex individuals). However, since Clusters are 6 units, you need to invest some time in this class. The quizzes can be tricky but they're very fast (15 minutes long for 12 questions). The papers were intensive but that's given.
Class Breakdown (+ list of requirements you fulfill)
Two Papers: the second is worth more than the first
Three short quizzes: these are based on the lectures and readings
Final exam: like a quiz but 40 questions instead of 12
Section work:
- Presentations: very easy, based on that week's readings
- Writing exercises: also very easy, just do it and hand it to your TF
- Participation: just speak up in discussion and you'll be fine
- Library stuff: you'll get an explanation from a Powell librarian about how to use the library
Course evaluations: an easy way to get 1%
You fulfill 2 Social Analysis GEs, 1 Historical Analysis GE, 1 Life Science GE, 1 Writing II requirement, 1 Diversity requirement (6 requirements in 3 quarters) IF you finish the whole 72A, B, C series.
