Lectures were all straightforward and well-structured !!! Professor and the guest speakers knew their stuff and were truly awesome! However, don't choose Nina as your TA because she was not helpful or useful whatsoever, and it seemed like she was intentionally avoiding me and my Asian study buddy throughout the entire quarter! Be prepared to feel stupid when you finally see the efforts you put in this interesting diversity class turn out to be a shitty grade without any reason. I hate to say this but THE RACIAL, GENDER WAGE GAPS IN THE U.S. SHOULDN'T ENTITLE ANYONE TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST INNOCENT AISAN STUDENTS IN ACADEMIA!

I really enjoyed this class. I learned a lot about Labor Laws that I never knew about that will help me tremendously in my career. There were so many amazing lectures by so many notable speakers. I felt really special getting to hear from everyone. I will say my two pieces of constructive feedback for this class was the how little the final examination was gone over. The other would be having to go to labor events outside of class for five hours. I had trouble fitting the five hours into my schedule because most of the events never landed on a time I could do them, since I am currently taking 21 units and working at 2 studios in downtown LA. Perhaps instead of five hours, four hours might be a bit more doable. I had trouble getting that final hour in. And in terms of the final examination, I simply did not know what to do to study. I thought the papers were good because I found a topic I was passionate about and was able to write ten pages about it. The reflection paper was also a really doable three pages. You do read three simple to understand 80 page-books in this class that are mostly written by the professors describing labor corruption. They have pictures. You also read articles, but none of it is mandatory. Even lecture isn't. But I recommend you go so you understand the concepts better. This class did have a collective-bargaining exercise that was my favorite activity in the class. Basically, you pretend you're either the employers or the workers and you debate your case for different topics like higher vs lower wages. Overall, I learned a lot about the struggles of much of the working class. This class opened my eyes to a lot of corruption that goes on in the world, and gave me inspiration to protect myself and my family as well as others. I would definitely recommend this class to a friend. I had a great time.

This class was really informative and I learned a lot about labor issues that I didn't even know were that prevalent. I also appreciated how the professors would bring in guest speakers for certain lectures to make the two hour lectures more engaging.

Straightforward GPA booster class, would definitely recommend. Class is listed as Labor and Workplace Studies but has a lot of topics that would fall under a Social Justice category.

I took this class as a GE and it was a great choice! Material was interesting and there was barely any work besides a few readings every week that you could just skim quickly. There were a lot of guest lecturers and it was overall a very chill class.

SUPER easy GE to boost your GPA! I recommend.

This class was overall very interesting and highly recommend people to take it!
I will complain about the grading though, everything is due at the end of the quarter so you're kinda in the dark of where you stand.
10-page final paper, multiple choice final, 5-hour field study paper are all due at the end of the quarter and in total make up 90% of the grade, discussion and participation makeup 10% so again not much to go by on where your grade stands throughout the whole quarter.
Both Valenzuela and Wong, however, are amazing professors and hold very engaging lectures and bring in dedicated guest speakers.

If you're considering this class as a GE, TAKE IT!! It's super easy and there are just two papers due at the end of the quarter. No midterm or final exams!

took me about 7 weeks to warm up but then I had a really good time. There is a 10 page research final, 5 hours of community work and a multiple choice exam. Other than that you don't have to do much.... the 3 hour lectures got pretty boring but I had to go or else I woudnever ever be able to catch up. It is one of the better GEs that Ihave taken.

This class is very intriguing and easy. The guest speakers are very informative and give stellar presentations. The organization and instructions in the class can be very chaotic. The TA hardly knew what was going on and did not give good instructions for our assignments/exams.

As long as you read the textbooks and attend the guest lectures you will do great.
