Winter 2024 - I decided for my reviews now I will now justify my scores for each of the components as well as a more extensive review: Number Score Overview: Easiness: 5 - Class content is not that difficult, exams are fair (NOTE: Took AP Stats in Highschool) Clarity: 5 - He is very clear and great at explaining the statistical concepts Workload: 5- The workload is not that bad, homework assignments can sometimes be long but not too bad, but it wasn't something completely unmanageable. Helpfulness: 5- Mike was super helpful his office hour as well as the TAs. There was alot of support in that class to get the help you need. Overall: 4- Overall this class was fine, I was a little bored but that's probably because I had learned the content before and it was very slow paced. I hated the labs, I did not learn anything and probably will forget the few things I remember about r. Content is interesting but go over less stuff compared to AP Stats. Extensive Review: Professor: Mike is a decent professor. He is really nice and really cares about your mental and emotional wellbeing. He is great at explaining things and he can be pretty funny if that's your sense of humor. Class: The class is fine, a normal introductory statistics class. If you took AP Stats in highschool its pretty much the same thing except with less content. The main difference is that AP Stats covered more topics and focused more on theoretical stuff while this class focuses on what happens if theoretical conditions are not met and how to conduct these tests using simulation. The labs were pretty boring, did not learn much. I was just copying down whatever the TA. There will be coding on your exams so you should try harder on it than I did. The homework can be a bit long but for whatever reason, whoever is grading the homework is such a stickler for the smallest things. I would get the stupidest points marked off on my homework for the most random things. So just be aware of that.

Summer 2020 - I want to start off by saying I have never taken a stats class before, at first I was extremely nervous to take this class with this particular professor due to the amount of things the professor did to prevent cheating. Both exams were on respondus and we had to have our phones on zoom with the camera directed on our hands. As someone who already gets anxiety during exams, this policy did not really help ease it, I will say I was much more calm during the final though as I knew it was not as bad as i had initially thought. To break the class down, lecture attendance counted as extra credit (max 1%) and were recorded/uploaded to ccle, at first the professor would only leave the lectures up for 3 days and then we were not allowed to watch them, but for some reason he just removed this restriction after the midterm. Labs/HW were both worth 20% of our grades (so together 40%), the hw's were pretty easy, labs I hated simply because I did not understand the purpose of them, grading will depend heavily on your TA. I personally had Jireh and he was amazing at explaining concepts and was an overall very good TA. The midterm and Final were both worth 30% each, and were both mc. The final was not cumulative and was everything after the midterm, both exams were not focused on calculation, rather they were heavily conceptual. Overall, I think I stressed about this class a lot more than I should have, professor Wu does have a very monotone voice, but he is very good at explaining most concepts and would try to interact with the students during lecture. I definitely think that this class was very fair, after taking this class I appreciate the security measures implemented to prevent cheating, as I think my final grade would have been a lot different if they weren't. In all, the best way to describe my experience with this professor was fair, it was not super easy but if you put in the effort it should have not been extremely hard.

VERY concerned about his students. For stats 13, it seemed a little out of the ordinary that we focused almost entirely on proofs and derivations (rather than basic problems, which a lot of my friends told me they did in past quarters) - but it does really help you understand the material and its theoretical basis. most of our quarter was spent writing papers or proving certain formulas - and indeed, this is what the final was on as well. but, if you really study his proofs/derivations and understand how everything works, you can do very well on the final (the only exam we ever had).

Fall 2019 - I love Dr. Zanontian!! She's a college professor with high school teacher energy, which is a great thing. She really cares about student learning and is willing to be really interpersonal to make sure her students thoroughly understand the material and aren't struggling. The class itself is not difficult either and is very fair. I would recommend this class to anyone.
