Sociology of Migration

Description: Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. Introduction to fundamental theories, themes, and research methods used in sociological research through comparative study of international migration. Examination of theoretical debates and empirical analysis of causes and consequences of transnational migration in countries of origin and destination, with focus on issues of race, ethnicity, social networks, development, citizenship, and state in comparative context. Letter grading.
