I took Sociology 40, it just wasn't listed in the course selection. It focused on American Psychosocial racism and I must say the class changed my perspective about racism. Professor Prager did his best to teach the class and provided interesting topics about things happening in current time. His lectures however were incredibly unorganized. I felt like every lecture we started over as if it was the first day of class. I ended up missing class the last 2 weeks of the quarter since he would put them on Bruincast and there was no point if what he was saying wasn't really useful to the class or final. My TA was probably what helped me pass the class. They gave weekly 2 page writing assignments about articles and videos discussed in the class. The midterm and final focused on the major readings of the class. My TA gave us a study guide and it helped make the midterm and final very easy. I got an A in the class, just as I'm sure mostly everybody did. This is a very easy GE and as long as you pay some attention, you should pass with an A too. Also, the course reader was free online.

The course does not give an introduction to sociology in the textbooky sense (I still don't know many sociological terms after taking the class), but rather Sherwood makes you think about your own life and society around you on your own. His lectures are interesting - he keeps the class engaged. He is a concerned and lively guy, and will remember your name if you talk in class. Participate during section. Participate during lecture (though it may seem daunting to speak in front of 200 people, Sherwood highly, highly values your participation in the lecture). Write high-quality papers that incorporate both personal experience and sociological concepts.

Winter 2020 - This class was super interesting. The readings were a little boring at first but they get far more interesting as the quarter goes on. We have to do a weekly journal based on the readings but they are fairly short. You must buy the books though!! Professor Sigmon is super nice and pretty engaging but he can be a little boring since he does not use a mic and his class was late in the day. He gave us study guides for the midterm and final which were extremely helpful. There is also a term paper due at the end of the quarter but you choose your own topic so it is fairly interesting. Overall, I would recommend this class with Professor Sigmon. I am also selling hard copies of the following books for this class: The Meaning of Sociology (9th edition), Mapping the Social Landscape (7th edition), and Readings for Sociology (9th edition). Text me at ********** for prices!!
