Spring 2024 - Prof. Mahajan is very kind and understanding. She always creates a safe space for students, and I really appreciate that! However, I think this distracts from the main goal of the class. I am a bit disappointed with the lack of films we watched and reflected on. Throughout the entire quarter, we only watched 3 films: The Party, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. We didn't go into in-depth "South Asian cinema and literature" as the name of the class suggests. We barely had any assignments, the first one being our short midterm. However, at the end of the quarter, she started giving us all of these assignments out of nowhere. The syllabus has no structure at all with no real indication of exam details and assignment due dates. All communication about assignments were last minute, and that made it hard to delegate time for them. She also does not communicate much on BruinLearn, so if you miss class you might miss out on announcements. Overall, even though it was a chill class, I wish this class lived up to its name, don't really recommend it to anyone who wants to take this class to watch bollywood movies...
