Professor Abramson is a really good professor. This class was really interesting and the material was so engaging that it wasn't like going to class but like watching tv for an hour and a half. The tests were really easy and the books were interesting. He doesn't give minus grades like A- or B- so if you get an A-, you get an A for the course. If you need a psych elective you should really try to take this class. It's a very popular class and when I took it there was a huge waiting list and I'm pretty sure he let everyone on the waiting list on.

Professor Baker is an amazing! If you go to lecture you will have all the information needed for the exams and guide you on what information you really need from the reading, which is the material he lectures on. He is extremely knowledgable on abnormal psychology and has lots of personal experience to offer. Classes are very organized and easy to follow. He organized a meeting for students to answer questions about graduate schools in psychology, and was very knowledgeable in that area too. The exams are very fair and he gives out the long essay questions before the exam and the short answer questions are usually based on the long essays he doesn't use for the midterm. I highly recommend him for abnormal psych.

He is not only boring, he also doesn't care about his students. I got a 60% on the first midterm, so I studied hard for the second and I got a 60% again. I only learned later that I was well above the class average. When I talked to him about my grade in the class, he told me I was "arrogant and maladaptive" for even bringing up the subject. I wanted to be a psychology major, but taking Cannon changed my mind.

I will put it this way. You can kill yourself with another professor for 127a or you can take Dr. Chorpita's 127c and get an A. I looked forward to class every day. Unlike other professors in psych, this class actually tests your direct knowledge without trying to trip you up maliciously on exams. Dr. Chorpita is exactly what a professor should be. Fascinating, hilarious, engaging and FAIR.

Professor Christensen is the most helpful professor in UCLA! He has great knowledge and the lecture is interesting. Most important of all, he's super nice and he concerns about students a lot! GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! He's very very helpful and patient! It's not an easy A class but you won't regret taking psych 127 with prof Christensen!

I do agree with the previous comment about him. There were a couple of ambiguous questions (that could have more than one correct answers) on the midterm, but instead of being fair and taking it out completely like most professors would, he just gave points to those that got it right, which bumped up the average significantly. There was only one midterm and one final, 50% each. Since the midterm and final are weighted the same, there is little room for improvement if you mess up on the midterm. Overall, he's a nice professor, but I don't think he knows much about the topic. All he does is read the slides and whenever a student asked a question, his response most of the time was "i'm not sure, go read the book." He never has a direct answer to the questions and 99% of the time uses "sorta kinda" with his incomplete responses. Also, his test overall is okay, better than what I've heard from other students about their abnormal psych prof.

Prof. Lopez's 127 class is great if interested in the field of abnormal psychology. I was taking this class to satisfy a major elective requirement for a life-science major. The GOOD: He hands out lecture notes prior to the class which REALLY helps with note-taking. He is always available during his office hours (except after tests) to help the student. Dr. Lopez also asked students if they wanted him to show up to class a 1/2 hour before it was to begin to help those who had questions (since the lecture hall was empty before our class). He is a decent grader when it came to tests (3 tests, final is NOT cumulative, 45 or so questions, mult-choice scantron). BTW, I earned a "mid-B" at 82%, the cutoffs for A = Top 20%, B = Next 30%, C = Next 40%. Also, there were some questions that just were not fair or the answer could have been 2 of the choices... so he did not count the unfair questions and added points to those questions where there could have been 2 right answers... how many profs would do that??? The BAD: He doesn't usually finish what his in-class lecture notes cover because he gets so caught up in a particular area that he spends a lot of class time on it, and leaves the rest to be desired. I didn't listen to the flurry of bad reviews listed below because this class fit into my schedule, and it was the biggest mistake of my college career. If you value quality education that consists of a well structure class with a thoughtful, engaging and detailed professor who cares about your success... then do not take this course. Her lectures are very loosely structured with no thoughtful connection to the exams. She basically shows up and blurts out everything that comes off the top of her head about each chapter, and then tests you with random information directly out of the book (most of which she never mentions in lecture), which basically means if you want an A you have to memorize every single detail on this EXTREMELY dense and complex subject matter. This is a lazy and, quite frankly, sadistic method of teaching. I have a 3.7 and have studied harder for this class then I ever have, and have never done so poorly. Learn from my mistake and avoid this nightmare course at all costs.
