Description: Lecture, three hours. Enforced requisites: courses 105A, 110A, 115A, C187A, Chemistry 110A, Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology 100. Nonequilibrium phenomena. Application of mechanics, hydrodynamics, diffusion, and electrical transport to dynamical phenomena. Macroscopic phenomena: swimming, flying, thermoregulation, blood circulation, breathing, electrical transport along membranes. Physics of cells: Brownian motion, molecular motors, and cytoskeleton. Concurrently scheduled with course C287B. P/NP or letter grading.
