Introduction to Biophysics
Description: Seminar, three hours. Enforced requisites: courses 1A, 1B, and 1C, or 1AH, 1BH, and 1CH, or 6A, 6B, and 6C, Chemistry 20A, 20B, Life Sciences 1, 3, Mathematics 3A, 3B, and 3C, or 31A, 31B, and 32A. Specific examples of diverse biological design such as scaling of metabolic activity, bone and muscle mass, cell size, cell membranes and pumps, heart and blood circulation, swim bladders, insect vision, magnetic bacteria, etc., studied quantitatively using elementary mathematics and physical principles. P/NP or letter grading.

I took astro 3. Professor Coroniti really knows his materials, but his lectures are very hard to follow because he explains everything in too much detail than necessary. Even his powerpoints have 30-40 slides for every lecture. So in order to do well in the course, you need to go over the slides and filter the unimportant stuff out. Go to lecture and take note of what Professor says is important (because he will tell you.) For midterm and final, Professor gives you the outline, which sums up what we actually need to know. So I would suggest focusing on studying what is written on the outline, rather than trying to go over everything from the lecture. You REALLY DON'T NEED TO KNOW EVERYTHING THAT PROFESSOR SAYS IN LECTURE! He just likes to go on to talk about it. When in doubt, go to office hours. I went couple times before midterm and final, and found it helpful. If you are looking for an easy GE, I don't think this is the right course. However, if you are interested in astronomy, then this course would be pretty interesting. I learned a lot and I am glad I took the course even though it was a lot of work. I ended up with an A, BUT again I did put in time and effort.

McLean is genuinely caring towards every student, and has the interest of everyone to do well. Very easy to talk to.
