Introduction to Biophysics

Description: Seminar, three hours. Enforced requisites: courses 1A, 1B, and 1C, or 1AH, 1BH, and 1CH, or 6A, 6B, and 6C, Chemistry 20A, 20B, Life Sciences 1, 3, Mathematics 3A, 3B, and 3C, or 31A, 31B, and 32A. Specific examples of diverse biological design such as scaling of metabolic activity, bone and muscle mass, cell size, cell membranes and pumps, heart and blood circulation, swim bladders, insect vision, magnetic bacteria, etc., studied quantitatively using elementary mathematics and physical principles. P/NP or letter grading.
