Spring 2023 - Physics is supposed to known to be hard but Professor Faber did such a good job at making it not so scary. He really does care about student learning and makes his lectures easily digestible for everyone to understand. He had no problems answering questions during class, and he did a lot of demos for us so that we could understand concepts. He was also really generous w the curve on both the midterm and final, and seemed like he really wanted everyone to do well. Your grade is based on homework, participation (he just gave us the points for being an interactive class), a midterm, and a final. If you have to take Physics 10, I'd definitely recommend taking him if you can. I really enjoyed his class and did well even though I thought I was bad at physics.

I found this class to be very difficult. She teaches CONCEPTUAL physics, therefore, you do not really have to know the math aspect of it. She does provide you with a list of equations in class, but majority of her tests are conceptual questions. If your only exposure to physics was a year in high school I suggest you take an easier professor. Although her tests are all multiple choice they are still difficult. If you have to take her I suggest getting AAP physics tutoring also. She had entertaining experiments in class and she was very animated and knows the material really well, however, it is difficult to understand her sometimes. Also, in each class she packs a lot of information into each lecture, so sometimes it feels overwhelming. As far as office hours, she was late to almost half of her office hours, I found myself waiting outside of her room for half an hour waiting for her to finally show up. I would highly suggest taking another professor.

I did not think Prof. Gruner was an effective teacher, or that Physics 10 with him was a gratifying experience. He glossed quickly over concepts and most importantly didn't solve any example problems, so many people who understood the concepts didn't know how to apply them when the first midterm rolled around. As a result, the curve in the class was ridiculous, and I felt like I got an A just for putting ink on paper. In general, I don't think he cared much about this class, as he never knew basic details about the homework assignments like where to turn them in or when they were due, and never cared to post test result statistics. Sadly, the best thing to happen in this class was him leaving for two weeks. This gave Erika, one of his grad students, a chance to teach the class. She was very animated and engaging, broke concepts down and spoon-fed them to us, and did sample problems so we actually knew how to apply them. If she had taught the whole quarter, I think I would have gotten much more from the class.

Spring 2019 - Although some of the reviews may advise you to deter from enrolling in this class...Don't listen to them. Professor Holczer can be difficult to understand due to his accent, but he ALWAYS encourages his students to ask questions and let him know what he can do to clarify his instruction. He has even gone out of his way after class to personally ask me if he was being clear during lecture or if the pace was too fast. He begins the course covering the basics of physics, and from there he pretty much assumes you know what's happening and are keeping up. The textbook is expensive, don't buy it - it's online. The two midterms and finals are worth 80% of your grade and are based on material from the textbook. You are allowed a cheat sheet on the exams which is VITAL to do well on the exams so take it seriously. Studying isn't even necessary with the cheat sheet. The exams are tough but with the cheat sheet, you will succeed in the class. The weekly homework is worth 20% of your grade and is usually easy and straightforward. Honestly, I stopped attending lecture after week 5 because I knew I could handle the class without going and I had minimal physics background prior to taking this class...The grading isn't harsh and it is relatively easy to achieve an A in this class. I recommend!!!!!!!

I had to take Physics for my major and I was so scared of taking such a class. But Professor Huffman started the first day of class with a demonstration that seemed so utterly easy--I couldn't believe it. He made me really like physics, and I hated it in high school. His demonstrations were great visual tools for the concepts he taught. His lectures were to the point and clear. If you want to take a class with an intelligent, caring, funny, sweet, and organized teacher..Art Huffman is your man!

I took his physics 10 class. It was great! He knows his subject really well. Sometimes it seems hard, but I had a lot of fun in the class. It's not high school physics class. You need to understand by yourself and study! Prof. Kivelson likes students' opinion and question. He doesn't grade on the curve, so it is up to you to get a good grade. Also, it is open-book test. I recommend his class.

Winter 2023 - absolutely loved professor kogar! it was very intimidating at first (the subject matter itself), however, professor kogar made this class engaging, and was super approachable. if you take this class you absolutely should go to office hours as he will make a point of helping you out and remember who you are. don't be intimidated if it feels difficult at first! i fully thought i was going to end up failing and ended up with an a+. he is the best

*This is a review for Physics 11 Physics 11 with Larkin is literally one of the best classes I've ever taken. It goes through the intricacies of physics with zero math involved, so it's only concept based. Yet, by the end, you'll have a general idea of Einstein's theories, quantum mechanics, black holes, string theory, etc. Basically, the course will absolutely blow your mind and the fact that it's stripped of math will allow you to appreciate the beauty of physics without drowning yourself in the numbers. Professor Larkin himself makes the course extremely fun. He's an amazing lecturer and answers questions before you even ask. Everything he teaches is interesting. He's also very clear with the material exam wise. His powerpoints really help the lecture (although notes are still highly recommended) and he uploads study guides which will easily help you through the midterms. He makes himself extra available before midterms and thoroughly cares about his students. Do whatever you can to take physics 11 with Larkin, it is truly an eye opening experience. You will learn more about physics than you ever thought you could know.
