Cellular Communication and Regulation of Physiological Processes
Description: Lecture, three hours. Limited to juniors/seniors. Signal transduction concepts, with focus on role of receptors, G proteins, and intracellular messengers such as cyclic AMP and calcium. Integration of these concepts with variety of physiological processes, including stimulus-secretion coupling, vascular smooth muscle contraction, and role of growth factors in cell proliferation. Contemporary scientific research articles used as basis for material presented. Students required to present journal article for discussion. Letter grading.
