Foundations in Physiological Science
Description: Lecture, four hours; discussion, two hours. Requisites: course 107, Chemistry 14C or 30A, Life Sciences 1, 2, 3, 4, 23L, Physics 1B or 6B or 6CH. Students must receive grade of C or better to proceed to next course in series. Introduction to principles of muscular and neural physiology, including factors controlling membrane excitability, neuronal circuits, sensorimotor regulation, special senses, cortical functions, and neuronal plasticity. Letter grading.

Winter 2023 - Well, Ronny was def a better lecturer than Ketema Paul was, but his exams were harder. Ronny is very articulate and can explain the concepts in the course really well (sometimes in too much detail), but he had very very high expectations of his students. If he is teaching the muscle module again, def be prepared to have more application based questions as opposed to memorization ones you are used to in the physci series.

Winter 2023 - So yes, Esdin was the most personable of the three 111A lecturers, yet for some reason I feel like the past bruin walk reviews hyped him up too much as the professor "which saved and redeemed 111a". The content of his module objectively was the most interesting to me, yet his exams weren't as easy as both bruin walk reviews or himself claimed it would be. Nothing crazy with the exams though, just not necessarily as easy as people say. But overall, def manageable to get an A.

He was a great professor! He really made the material straight forward and easy to understand. His midterm was especially straight forward. Everything he emphasized in class, was on the exam (just like he said) and everything he glazed over was not on the test. He made lecture very entertaining. Definitely recommend taking a course (or two) with him.

Prof. Narins is one of the few good professors I had at UCLA. His lectures are well organized and he really teaches you everything you need for the midterm. No need to look at the book. Average for my midterm was 75% which is not bad. His test, like he said is fair. Just make sure you know the lectures really well and memorize everything in it. He also asks weird EC questions on his tests, like geography stuff because his son does something on the field. Overall, he's a great lecturer and friendly at office hours

Winter 2023 - Ketema Paul was an awful lecturer. He just read the slides and sometimes he couldn't even read his own slides right. He clearly teaches because the school forces him to. The only upside is he really doesn't care that much which led to his exam being the easiest of the three modules in 111A. So tbh, I liked him better than the other profs because the exam wasn't stressful.
