Introduction to Nursing and Social Justice II
Description: Lecture, two hours. Advanced discussion on history of nursing, with focus on contemporary role of nursing in relation to ethics and social justice. Analysis of ethical principles (justice, autonomy, veracity, beneficence, confidentiality) and professional values (altruism, autonomy, human dignity, integrity, and social justice) in relation to nursing practice throughout history in health/illness and end-of-life contexts. Evaluation of social, cultural, legal, and political forces in relation to paternalism for professional nurses working with diverse patient populations in the 21st century. Letter grading.

Professor Pieters was a great professor. At the beginning of the quarter, I didn't think I'd like the class much, but as time went on, I realized I was learning a lot about myself (my time management, stress factors, how I handle conflict, etc.). If you put effort into your essays, you should be fine. There are two essays (30%), participation (10%), portfolio (25%), and final paper (35%). I got an A+ in the class :)
