Secondary Prevention
Description: Lecture, four hours. Requisites: courses 150A, 150B, 152A, 152B. Screening and early detection of illness to prevent chronic or acutely deteriorating illness. Expanding on concepts of health and human development and using nursing process, application of nursing role in providing care to individuals and their families to screen, diagnose, and treat illness at earliest possible time to prevent disability or premature mortality. Examination of health problems of individuals within context of family, social and community systems, and interdisciplinary healthcare systems. Emphasis on differences in developmental stages in response to screening for early and late signs and symptoms of illness in ambulatory and acute care settings, community agencies, rehabilitation units, outpatient specialty clinics and surgical units, and home and community settings. Letter grading.
