Spring 2014 - Dr. Rebecca Lord is by far one of the greatest instructors I’ve ever had the privilege of learning from. She is an inspiring conductor, deeply cares about her students, and does everything in her power to make sure we effectively retain score markings and enjoy our time singing to the fullest, ensuring quality music and quality time. Dr. Lord has a wealth of knowledge on performing, given her diverse arts background in various different disciplines, and her experiences come through in her conducting so beautifully. She does not settle for less than perfection and successfully creates an environment of professionalism and focus amongst the singers in every rehearsal. In addition to her teaching, Dr. Lord is approachable and compassionate, making every singer feel valued and open to asking questions. I wish she was still at UCLA but I'm so grateful to have been her student and am envious of all current and future singers that get to sing under her baton.

Professor Neuen is extremely talented as a conductor and has proven to be so through his choir and orchestra performances. However, his action to humiliate, disrespect, and demean his students is his biggest downfall. This says a lot about someone's character and their values. I understand that he values performance but if you cannot value your students as individuals then you have failed to the morals of your profession. He forgets that as a UCLA professor there are certain UCLA values that he needs to abide by. Respecting students is not an option, it is a right to each and every one of you as a human being.
