Professor Marner is the best professor that MAE has to offer. No question about it. He has a fantastic lecture style, a high level of organization and straight forwardness, and he involves the students in his lectures through his charismatic personality and humor. Don't graduate from UCLA MAE without taking this guy at least once. That being said, students considering taking his class should be aware that a high workload will be the norm. I also took him for MAE 133A, were there is a project which takes up a lot of time. During this time in the course the homework piled up sometimes even up to two homework assignments per week in addition to an approaching project deadline. Students should also not expect to pick their own groups; Marner wishes to make the class like industry so the TA's pick the groups according to a skills questionnaire. Great professor, great man...take his class at least once.

I loved Pilon! He's a good professor and even tries to learn everyone's names. Don't be late for class or he'll call you out on it. His tests are actually pretty easy...half conceptual and half analytical. When you solve problems, don't make stupid mistakes cause they're pretty stingy on the partial credit. On the midterm, one of the problems asked you to compare two different values. I solved for the two different numbers (correctly) but since I didn't find the ratio I got 7 points marked down. Kinda unfair in my opinion. Just make sure you read the questions carefully! You kinda have to go to every lecture. He'll notice.

I took Professor Rahim for MAE 105D. Let me start off by saying the homework was very long and difficult. Lectures alone do not help for the homework and you must read the book. However, her exams were a lot easier than the homework and it is very doable to get an A on them. She basically would tell us before the exam what was going to be on it, so we could cut down the amount of material we needed to study. 10th week, she also held a review session that helped a lot for the final. Basically whatever she went over in the review session ended up on the final in some way or another. Overall, her class isn't that bad. Make sure to go to the review sessions if she offers them and to read the book before lecture and you'll be set in this class.

Spring 2024 - Class was super easy, but lectures were incredibly boring, second only to Ruter in MAE 102. Homework did not take too long, but it was also super boring, especially as you got to convention and you had to repeatedly do the same calculations for slightly different problems. Would recommend for easy A, but not for anything else.
