I actually took EEB 121 with Professor Brunk, but that wasn't an option on the dropdown menu. He was a pretty easy-going, humorous guy. Exams were fair, although the final is more difficult than the midterm. The book's definitely not necessary, as I never opened mine. Avoid enrolling in David Gold's section if possible. He made it clear that we were not a priority, and wasn't helpful at all. There are 100 points reserved for discussion, and he explicitly told us that discussion was voluntary and he'd assign three assignments throughout the quarter, which would account for the 100 points. He ended up assigning one assignment, and making the final discussion mandatory without informing any of us, except for those who attended regularly. So basically the ones who knew the material were penalized for not attending discussion when he told us NOT to come!

this review is for LS 4 Chen is a decent professor. She knows her stuff but sometimes has a hard time explaining it. Do a lot of practice problems. even with a very good professor, practice is the only way to master genetics, and she is very clear about this. She is also pretty helpful. I emailed her with questions and she was able to help me over email.

I took EEB 152A with Prof Gibson (Tropical Biology) in Fall 2009. Like someelse said, you have to attend lecture to watch the movies he shows in class. Take some serious notes, like names of animals and what they are doing and what country/location they are in. The class consisted of 640 points. 148.5 points from midterm one, 231.5 from final (non cumulative). About half of the questions on the final were on the videos we watched in lecture. The remainder 260 points are from discussion. Discussion is okay, a little boring at times. You have to write four "essays" on presentations that are done in class. Essays consist of a paragraph worth 10 points. Also there is a 100 point presentation you have to do which is incredibly easy. Practically everyone received 100%. As far as his lecture style... I felt it was a little dull. He tends to read off the powerpoint handout a lot but every once in a while he says something that might not be there and will be tested on. The movies are pretty cool though. I would recommend this instructor for this class. It was a nice elective to take to balance my other biochem classes.

I had LS4 with Prof Laski. He stutters a lot but that didn't bother me as it did some people. He's kind of funny but he really goes slow with the material to make sure every last person understood what he was talking about. His exams really make you think about what you know, which is a good thing. I'd recommend taking him, though I can't say that about other professors.

LS4 with Merriam is like taking an online course without sufficient materials. Although I got an A in the class, many of my friends suffered because it is basically an independently taught class. Merriam, at least for me, did not go well with my studying methods, and I usually left class a little more confused than when I came in. Oh, and the only reason I bothered to go was the institution of mandatory quizzes at the beginning of almost EVERY lecture. Seriously, hold out on LS4 with Merriam and go with WHOEVER else is teaching the class. I worried neurotically about my grade until the very end of the quarter, and right now, I feel like I know absolutely no genetics...good luck!

I TOOK EEB 120 with him. He was a very nice old man. His lectures were a little hard to sit through, but it was a farely easy class. If you talked to him about your homework or test grades he was very very sympathetic and would often give you extra points if you could explain your understanding.

EEB 116 Conservation was an incredibly interesting class that I would highly recommend taking. However, it is not very easy as lectures are slightly unorganized and random. No one that i know did very well on the tests, either, but it is not as bad as everyone from the years past say.
