Spring 2024 - The professor is incredibly talented when it comes to teaching. The best quality teacher I have had so far at UCLA. This class contains some very difficult topics and is arguably the hardest math non honors undergrad class. The professor is just really good at teaching the concepts and I give him a lot of credit for that. Additionally, he records lectures, posts lecture notes, gives good homework questions that help intuition, and gives practice problems for exams. He also posts videos explaining homework hints and exam solutions rather than just posting the PDF like other professors. The midterms were fair but definitely on the harder side. Medians on both midterms around 60%. The average on the final was the same, but I personally think it was an easier test mostly because you get much more time. The exam was definitely fair. Unfortunately with UCLA's math department, there is not a select grade distribution for each class. So your grade at the end of the day is largely influenced by the curve the professor decides. Some professors decide to create a cutoff in some way where top 30% get A's, some top 50%, some 10% etc. This professor's grade distribution is probably on the harder side compared to other professors, but he is a great teacher and would recommend. For reference, I got above the median on both midterms by about 6%, 100% on homework, and 22% above the median on the final, and I got a B. Not complaining, but take this info as you will.

Spring 2022 - This review is for Math 131BH. He's an amazing lecturer and has a lot of office hours where he is extremely helpful. He does often cover material outside the textbook (Rudin), but it all seems like it does definitely belong in this class and he writes really high quality lecture notes for the extra material. The class is extremely extremely difficult and painful and the final was brutal but I do definitely recommend it if your goal is to really work hard and learn analysis. He's also a great person and is very very entertaining in his office hours. He really is an amazing professor.

Fall 2020 - Avoid this guy, his syllabus may fool you with having 90% as solid A and having 5 online quizzes, but he's teaching is the worst. When it comes up to quizzes and midterms, they are impossible to get full score. I just wish I dropped the class before the first quiz was graded, at least I could've changed the section or the class for easier one.

Fall 2018 - Rolando is one of the best lecturer I have had at UCLA. he gives exam reviews that are super helpful and clear as well as gives practice problems that reflect the exams. He also explains things very clearly and is very helpful and approachable during office hours and through email. He’s the guy to take this class with

Well, I found many negative comments about Prof De Sapio, most of which are from lower div. However, for upper div math classes, he was pretty good with clear lectures and sometimes a sense of humor. It's a fact that materials of 131B is pretty darn hard, but he did a good job explaining them. One bad thing about him: His tests are all handwritten, which makes it kinda hard to read.
