Description: Lecture, three hours. Descriptive analysis of basic features of standard Italian from synchronic, typologic vantage. Topical emphasis may vary annually, but core progression departs from phonology (e.g., syllable types, prosodic patterns, phrasal phonetics), moves through morphologic constituents, passing to sentence sequences (coordination, ellipses, etc.). S/U or letter grading.
