Fall 2019 - This class was awesome! I wish there had been a bit more focus on Vietnam before the 1800s, or maybe to split this course into two parts, but overall it was great. He gives a few more assignments than most upper-division courses, but it really didn't seem like it since they weren't incredibly difficult to complete. The midterm and final were take home, and if you went to class they were super easy. I mostly skimmed the readings for main ideas, and as long as you put in a bit of effort, it wasn't difficult at all. If he teaches again at UCLA, I would HIGHLY recommend taking his course.
