Professor ehret has been the worst professor I have taken so far in my three years of college. Although he seems very nice, his lecture presentations are very dull and uninteresting. He makes use of powerpoint presentations in class that he reads word for word! He covers a lot of material that when it's already time for the midterm or final, he just says pick a theme. I think everyone in the class felt very overwhelmed because of all the material that we needed to review for the exams. I went to his office hours, thinking that he would at least shed some light, but he ended up confusing me even more. I got a B+ in the end, inspite of all the hard work, which ruined my gpa, as well as my interest in Africa. I do not recommend anyone to take this professor at all!

Prof. Getty is a truly amazing lecturer. He really brings the events of Russian history to life with his lectures and stories. Even though I'm not a History major, this was one of the few classes I actually wanted to go to. If you're looking for an interesting history class, then Prof. Getty is the way to go. Take him if you're lucky enough to get the chance - you won't regret it!

Lecture style: decent with the lectures. Somewhat scattered when she didn't have an outline to follow. The first few weeks with the powerpoint were somewhat pointless since it was mostly reading the slides with only extra tidbits every so often. Later, the slides became more of a skeleton outline and the lectures became fairly interesting. (Essay) tests: Easy. Kinda crazy that she wants some citations for a 50-minute midterm, but the grading is very generous even if you don't finish the essay -- received 98/100 even with 1 body paragraph + the conclusion missing. The final is pretty much the same way. If you do the readings, its cake. If you do half the readings, its still cake, since you can probably still get an A just off her lecture notes alone as long as you can answer her question coherently.
