Spring 2017 - The professor does not take role, although the syllabus states. The syllabus did not match course material or organization. The slides were simply pictures, rather than any text to gain concrete understandings. The professor would ramble on about nothing important to what is required to know. There was never any information of what is required to know and understand in order to succeed on the midterm. The final paper was assigned 1 week before it was due during finals week. The paper was 10 pages and had to use course readings, which were by far the most ive ever been assigned. The readings hardly adhered to what is required on the final paper and midterm exam. The midterm was simply terms, which he still graded very harshly. The professor has 0 organization and no understanding on a proper way to instruct to engage students into understanding course material to be successful on his work.

At first Prof. Jacoby seemed to be an easy going and somewhat interesting professor. However, it should be noted that his grading is very stringent. I received my first B ever in a History class, and the rest of the class seemed to share the same misfortune. The take-home midterm seemed doable, so I put 110% in and received a B. I was hoping to maintain an A average at UCLA, but with Jacoby's rather harsh grading, it didn't happen. If you decide to take his class, be prepared to sit through endless lectures and read lots of material, all the while ending up with a B at best. Jacoby, with his standards should be teaching at the graduate level where his methods of grading would be better suited.

I really enjoyed this class. Yes he does have a bit of an accent but that shouldn't stop you from taking his course. Nuts and bolt of the course: One 5-7 page paper on a borad topic that he gives you. This paper wasn't due until the second half of the course. Mid term and final - 5 ID's and one essay. He hands out a study guide that has the exact IDs and essay questions on it. YAHOO!!!!! For the essay questions, he gives you 4 questions of which two will be on the test. You have to choose one from those two to write on. For the IDs, he gives you 12 Ids on the study guide, then there will be 5 on the test which you HAVE to answer.
