Evaluating Cosmopolitanism
Description: Seminar, one hour. Cosmopolitanism is political philosophy: notion that every human is part of single community with shared morality. As international community has become increasingly globalized, cosmopolitan rhetoric has often been employed as means to reduce inequalities and maintain peace. Taken to its furthest extent, cosmopolitanism would entail elimination of national boundaries and complete global governance; however implausible that reality may seem, cosmopolitan ideologies inform modern international policies and underpin globalization. Cosmopolitan ideals are seen in real world applications through treaties like the Declaration of Human Rights, and organizations like United Nations and International Monetary Fund. Examination of cosmopolitanism through various academic lenses. Facilitated by Samantha Wieske, with Eric Sheppard as faculty mentor.
