Spring 2024 - I should've read the reviews for this class before signing up for it because it is probably the worst class I have taken at this school. This professor does not teach. Every lecture after the first one has been handed off to a guest speaker to teach instead. The syllabus lists what films and scripts you need to view for homework each week, but I don't understand the point of the homework because it's not like we talk about any of that in class — they're not mentioned even once. We also don't really follow what the syllabus says will be covered each week. The assignments are pretty easy (despite the instructions being unclear half the time), so if you want an easy class there's that, but I would've much rather taken a class where I had to do interesting work, and would've much much much rather taken a class where three hours of my time wasn't wasted each week. It's cool to have big industry guest speakers, but it's not cool if they're just coming to explain their life story. We're here to learn, not just ogle at people's successes. I've never felt the need to write a review until this moment so I hope this helps and that you avoid this class. I also don't appreciate how on the last day of class students were asked what they were majoring and minoring in, only for the professor to make rude comments on which ones were good or not — why did a *film professor* tell students majoring and minoring in film that they made the wrong decision and were wasting their time? I think there is a way to give this sort of advice kindly and when it is asked for, and that simply was not the time. Overall I felt very disrespected in this class and did not feel that the professor deserved any of my respect back.
