ENGL 88S
Devil Is in the Details: Survey of Literary Depictions of Satan
Description: Seminar, one hour. Satan has been popular cultural figure for hundreds of years during which depictions of Satan have been as varied as media in which they have been found. Books, poems, paintings, movies, television shows, and music all feature their own canonical depictions of Satan, with all iterations representing different moments in history. However, Satan is consistently depicted as personifying evil. Focus on details of these literary and cultural depictions and how such details suggest different ideas of what is evil or bad. Exploration of questions such as how does this depiction respond to those before it and how does this depiction use certain details to represent immorality or evil. Facilitated by Colin Wolters, with Mitchum A. Huehls as faculty mentor.
