Fall 2020 - Spencer is the G.O.A.T. The attention he gives every student is remarkable although we were learning remotely. In his class, I developed as a writer and gained a more profound appreciation for literature. At the end of this class (ENGL4W), the entire class petitioned the English department to give Spencer an award because he is simply that awesome. I only wish I could take this class in person, so I could have met my peers and Spencer. This class is still very writing and reading intensive as all Writing II courses are, but Spencer made the heavy workload rather enjoyable. If you have Spencer as a teacher, you are very lucky, indeed.

Winter 2020 - Rhonda is awesome. First Professor I’ve had at UCLA that actually seems to have their sh*t together and care (that’s sad, but true). It was nice coming to class everyday knowing that each class followed a concerted plan, would be engaging, and clear. Her grading policy is awesome and she’s an awesome communicator. Assignments consisted of 2 weekly “discussion posts”, 2 papers, a revision on a previous paper, a creative project, and 2 reflections on previous assignments. It sounds like a lot when I outline it, but each assignment feels pretty intuitive and the prof. is flexible with due dates, helpful, and not a harsh grader at all. If you have to take a writing II course I definitely recommend this class with Sharrah.

Fall 2021 - Samantha is an absolutely fantastic instructor. The material they select for the class is extremely engaging and diverse, and they offer really excellent insight during class discussions. They provide very detailed and constructive feedback on papers, and are always available for help over email or in office hours. They set clear expectations but are very understanding and relaxed regarding deadlines and extensions- although the class is so interesting I looked forward to readings and papers instead of dreading them :) wonderful class!

Summer 2023 - Dr. Matthew Swanson knows his stuff. You can tell he's read a ton because whatever topic you pick, he’s right there with you. I took this Writing II course during a shortened summer session but managed it alongside two major classes, no problem. The workload is decent. Grades? Well, I jumped from a C+ in Writing I to an A in his class. His feedback is spot on, so if you get a chance, visit his office hours. Trust me, it’s worth it. Discuss your thesis before you dive in, and you’ll be set. His class materials are on point. I came in knowing nada about Shakespeare and the classics, but his presentations made everything click. If you’re trying to pick a Writing II class, Swanson's your guy. Would recommend.
